One of Long Island’s finest passed away suddenly on Tuesday February 18, 2025 longtime resident of Amityville, NY a LIDCA founding member, former president, Navy Veteran and proud decoy enthusiast George C. Munkert III. George, was an avid waterfowler, fisherman, historian and passionate about his love for the great outdoors. A proud member of Peconic River Sportsman’s Club, founding member of Hotel Harris Sporting Club in the Catskills, and devoted countless time promoting, mentoring and supporting us here at The Long Island Decoy Collectors Assoc, George was an integral part in preserving the many traditions we have come to enjoy. George will surely be missed yet, leaves behind a new generation of passionate outdoor enthusiasts who have all benefited from his guidance, determination and love for similar interests. For those who were lucky enough to meet George in this life, they have all savored the moments that create cherished memories. This March 2025 we plan to honor George’s life by paying special tribute to his passions on display for all to enjoy with a personalized memory book for those who wish to share a memory, moment or special instance with our lifetime friend. On behalf of George’s family, we express sincere appreciation for the overwhelming love & support received since his passing. George leaves behind his wonderful sup- porting wife Joyce of 56 years who enjoyed accompanying him at our various club events. He will surely be missed yet we look forward to continuing his legacy here at the LIDCA for generations to come.
