Looking for Balsa Wood

I am looking for balsa wood to make some decoys. If anyone knows where I can find some, it would be greatly appreciated. I like oversize decoys so 5" or 6" thick is what I am looking for.

Thanks,
Tim

Try National Balsa (www.nationalbalsa.com). I have a few block from them, it's nice stuff. A few of the guys here in SE Michigan use them.

If you can't find the balsa thickness you want you might want to add a cedar or pine bottom board. It will strengthen the edges of the decoy and make it bottom heavy which will make it self right like a champ.

No matter where you get the balsa it will most likely be pieces that are laminated together. Each piece will be a little different density and will carve a little differently. It's pretty darn easy to carve and it's very easy to take a big chunk out.

I bought some 4" thick and some pieces were hard as a rock others spongy and soft. If I remember Dave had a batch from same place that was much better than mine. When I buy again, if they can't ensure me consistency, I will order and glue my own. 4" is tough to find 5" is even tougher, couple places list it but I dont think its something they get regularly have on hand. Beside national there is also lone star balsa and specialized balsa and probably a few others.
