Looking for carved decoys

As the title says... I want to eventually build my whole spread of nothing but hand carved dekes.

That don't have to be "show" quality, and I like knowing the blocks came from members on here and other passionate fowlers.

Ideally I would love it to be signed and dated by the carver. I'm willing to pay obviously, but again, not looking for show quality.

Can anyone suggest some carvers, or have some birds for sale?

Jake:
It would probably be a good idea to actually state a range of how much you are willing to part with for these decoys. That way you will be able to connect with someone in your comfort zone, instead feeling outraged when someone mentions an (what you may consider) obscene price.

Well in respect to the carver, I'd feel confident in saying I'd never be outraged on someones price for something they've spent so much time in. But, very good point.

I'd say a safe and reasonable price range is under $150. The last decoy I bought was from a some what local for $80, granted that was for a gunner style ringneck with little detail. But all is fair when discussing personal, hand made art work. So let me know your price, and if I'm affordable, I'll let you know.

Thanks!

I'm looking a "thinning a herd" of over 300 cork and wood decoys....we've talked before on other sites so I think you already know what I have....all of the species that you'd encounter in Florida and in all price ranges from below your recent purchase to what your maximum is....

You have my e-mail address....

I rarely ever sell a decoy, but I recommend attending a few decoy shows. You meet a bunch of great guys that carve all manner of decoys. I would bet that you will find that sometimes the look of the decoy is secondary to the person that carved it. I have decoys in my rig from a couple of dear friends, they are rough (the decoys), but I always set them in a place of honor, protecting MY decoys.

I understand Terry, is definitely a touchy subject with some so I have to tread lightly when asking about it. But for example, Colin messaged me about selling a decoy to me.. a young man of 19 years old selling a gunning block just seems cool to me, especially me being only 24 myself and starting out in carving. I had 4 carved blocks in my spread this year, 3 of mine and one of a friend's which was my first "paid" decoy. I can say I stated at those carved blocks during the majority of the hunt wishing I had a full spread of them. Each block kind of like representing that person or a specific time. Even of the only connection I have with that person is a rough introduction followed by us being merely "online" buddies, I still think that beats a plastic bird any day in my books!

Any species in particular? I have a few I'm thinking about letting go.

I've bought a couple of Jim Higgins decoys (sneakbox decoys). Nice Guy and great work well within the money you mentioned. Wait is about 6 months.

Matt not really, I have a very small spread for puddlers so any of those. Divers I can always use ringers, and looking for a few cans and redheads. Don't need bluebills or any BIG water birds
