I'll be heading home to NY via Rt 13 and looking for some shops to hit along the way. Last time I was down this way I remember a decoy shop on the East side of route 13 in I think it was Maryland. Does anyone know the name of it and where it might be. I'll be leaving VA Beach tomorrow morning and I'm looking to see whats around along the way North.

Thanks

If you have an hour to spare, turn off 13 and go into Chincoteague.... at the light, just after you go over the bridge into town, make a right - theres a shop right there about mid-block.
When you leave there... follow the signs out to Assateague and you will pass several places/homes of decoy makers - they usually will have a sign out. Just ask around and I'm sure someone will point ya in the right direction(s)

John, i live just off 13 in dover--the place in virginia, is now defunct---was a decoy factory just north of the turnoff to chincoteague.
if you have cell in the vehicle, give a shout for directions-302-270-8706
I live just north of the super walmart which is south of dover---the area is called camden center--texas road house, mr donut, applebees are visible on the road.

While there are a plethora of little shops along the way, you might also want to check out a few of the museums along that route.

As stated, there are several shops on Chincoteague Island. While ther, check out the Refuge Waterfowl Museum. One of my favorites, it's located about fiteen minutes off of Route 13 at 7059 Maddox Blvd., (757) 336-5800. Take Route 175 , (Chincoteague Road), East at T's Corners. Might want to check their hours first though.

A little farther North look for The Ward Brothers Museum in Salisbury Maryland. It's located just off of Route 13 in Downtown Salisbury Maryland. 909 South Schumaker Drive. (410) 742-4988. Can't miss the signs. A great carver's museum. I actually know someone with several carvings on display there.

Again a little farther North, in Cambridge Maryland, look-up Chesapeake Classics. 317 High Street, Cambridge, MD., (410)-228-6509.

Even farther up North, if you want to wander a little off of Route 13, check out the Havre De Grace Decoy Museum in Havre De Grace Maryland. Located at 215 Giles Street, (410) 939-3739. It's probably one of the bigger museums along the route.

Hope these help a little.

Have fun,

Jon

John,

Smyrna Sporting Goods in Smyrna, DE is worth the stop. Brownie is a supproter of DU and helps out with the auctions. a real character. They have just about anything you need for waterfwowling. Last time I was there he had a few older cork decoys.

The Refuge Museum in Chincoteague is closed. If i knew earlier, you could have stopped by here. I am in Norfolk (right next to Va Beach.)

Don't leave Turner Sculpture out of the picture if you go up the shore!!!! Chincoteague is THE place to stop in.

Take care,

Spencer

P.S. you also might want to hit Havre de Grace
