i am looking to purchase a used bankes dominator 14 ft duck boat but i have questions about their durability. does anyone here own this boat and can speak to how durable they are. any issues with breaking ice? do they have to be stored inside to avoid age related cracking to hull from seasonal changes over time. thanks, tom

I own 3 Bankes boats, A Goliath, Two Man Rev, and a Hercules.

I have also seen a large number of their boats at shows and on the water.

I have had my goliath for 5 seasons and have run it in every condition possible. I repeatedly run it into mussel filled marsh banks, break ice, beach the boat on sand and oysters, and I'm constantly bumping into pilings.

The hulls are built to withstand the rigors of hunting and you will be very pleased.

Like any glass hull you will have to wax your gelcoat now and again to protect it from UV light. If you don't it will fade until you wax again. Mine has been stored outside for 5 years and there is no cracking because of it.

Give me a call if you have any questions I can answer specifically for you.

I own a dominator but purchased in Dec. so I haven't much experience with it..Email Michael Bankes, he will be honest and upfront with all your concerns...I too keep mine outside so I'm interested in the responses you'll get..Good luck...

I haven't waxed my Goliath b/c I like the faded color better than the original. I am getting mine repainted if I ever get my act together. Not out of necessity of course, I just want a different color.

I just picked up my Herc layout from a friend. It's about 7 years old and has only been hunted and sat in a yard in the off season. It is faded, but has no damage in the gel coat.

I also second that fact that Mike Bankes is a straight shooter. If he tells you something it's the truth. The Bankes family stands behind their products 100% and it is no coincidence that a number of my good friends that hunt the Chesapeake run Goliaths.

In place of wax I wipe my TDB down with Penetrol. It's an addiditive for oil based paint and can be found in any of the big box hardware stores. It brings the color back but without a real high gloss.
