Loss of The Man....

I write this with a heavy heart. I haven't shed a tear until I came here. I know that my dog and I are nothing special and I know how many here have dealt with this. I know that it's part of the deal when you bring a dog along. I'm gonna ramble a second and then be done with it. We put Stanley down this evening. He slipped into my dreams as his head rested again me and my wife Angie stroked his shiny black coat while we sat in the grass in the yard. We brought him into the world together and we were there at the end. It's was a great day to leave this place. We took him to the lake and the kids played with him and I walked on the beach with him. I directed him to take a swim and he did. I'm pretty sure he knew that it was time and that today was his last day. I'd like to think he was contemplating how many times he'd hit the water and brought me a fat greenhead. I know he did.

Jay,
these are never easy, and I think they are one of the things we all are moved by on the page here. Your words and pictures say it all. Having the chance to spend the last moments with the family is a good thing and not always possible.
I and my son will think of you all today and we are going to keep your dog and his memory in that special place only a waterfowler knows.

Sorry to hear that, Jay. That's always a tough decision.

On the sunny side, you get to start looking for a pup
