lund vs crestliner

My friend is having a tough time deciding on his next boat.He hunts and fishes lake erie.He found a 2006 18ft crestliner canadian with a 60hp merc. The other boat is a 05 18ft lund alaskan with a 75hp etec.He loves things about both boats. However doesn't want to buy the wrong one.Does anyone run either one of these rigs.If so how do you like them.Thanks.

The problem with the ETec is at idle it's so quiet you'll think it stalled! I vote for the Lund. I have nothing against Crestliner but I haven't seen one or been in one yet that I felt like was a better boat than an Alaskan. That's just me though.

I saw the aftermath where a 16' crestliner runover another boat after dark, & the only damage to the crestliner was a nasty dent to the stem with a funky side bend at water level. The crestliner had NO leaks, all welds held! I was amazed! The owner kept using it till his replacement boat came in. I don't know what model it was, but it's one tough cookie!!! That said, I have no exparence with lunds.

Mike, those are both excellent boats. Can`t say that either is a better hull than the other. I would personally go with the Lund, not because of the boat but I think the Etec is a better motor than the Merc.

Does he have a coin to flip? I have owned both a Crestliner and now have a Lund. Neither was perfect and they both have advantages. The Crestliner is welded and the Lund is rivited. One difference I discovered the hard way is that they have different transom angles. Won't matter in this case because they are rigged but just something to know and tell your freinds. I would buy the Lund

I had a 2006 18 Lund Alaskan w/75Merc 4stroke tiller. Loved that boat. I live in NJ and it was in salt all the time. I trailed 100%. Great boat plenty of storage. Tilt and trim on the floor, once you found the sweet spot with the tilt and trim it was just 2 fingers to steer.. I sold it to a guy in Nebraska and have regretted it ever since. I would buy another in a heartbeat. I tried to load a picture but it's too big.

I have an 18' Alaskan with a 90 etec. I have had Yamahas Hondas and this Etec. I have found the motor to be by far superior to the honda or the Yamaha and I thought they were Great motors at the time. I love my Alaskan have never regretted buying it, but I cannot comment on the Crestliner because I don't think I have ever been in one. Based on the motor alone, I would go for the Alaskan with the Etec. You should have your friend check out this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-7I00cZUE0 or google Etec vs yamaha. Hope this helps.
