MADOC duckboat in ME

I can't believe this boat is still out there for a paltry $750. Somebody from duckboats.net please go snag this boat!

First I must thank Dave for the original post. Thank you sir!

Now the gentleman who sold me this gem is 75 yrs old. He grew up on the working waterfront of MA. Along about his 18th birthday he told his father he was going to build a duck boat. We'll as it turned out dad was doing work on a house in town where a garage sale was about to happen, and in that garage was the Madoc. The original owner had only used it a few times and only with oars. So a deal was struck by his father for the work being performed
and this then young man became the second owner. Shortly thereafter he moved to Maine for work at a yard in Meerymeeting Bay where he settled and later became a licensed captain and a Maine guide. This boat hunted 50 years in Merrymeeting Bay and was treated to barn storage when not being used. He confided that years later dad revealed the motivation for purchase, it was to avoid explaining how his son could have drowned in a homemade boat held together with Elmer's glue and shoebox tacks!
Well that is the history of the Madoc that I know so far, pictures of her in action have been promised, but he must search for them.
So I find myself the 3rd caretaker of hull #65-002 and will be honored to clean her up and keep her alive.
Amazingly all the original hardware is intact including the duck boards and drain plug. No obnoxious alterations have been made and she is very solid. Blessed comes to mind. Regards.

Excellent introduction. I suggest you re-post it in the main forum for others to see. If you have any plans for her, mods/restoration we'd all like to hear about it.

Outstanding, you scored a boat with history and in awesome shape! Cant wait to see her in action.

Great story and boat. Did you say where you live, and where you are going to hunt with your new boat?

Mike,
I'm in central Maine, via Milford CT. (which I remember as an oyster village lol) Many friends and family still in your area.
The Madoc will spend much of her time local to the Sebasticook river system, which I'm blessed to live on.
Regards
