Marcus got his second ram.

Late season sheep hunting can be really bad with chinook winds chasing blizzards and socked in conditions. Daylight is less than 12 hours now which really affects how for a guy can get in a day and the nights are dark enough to show stars. But each year some fool heads out on the slim hope of finding a big old ram coming out to a front range where you can get a look at him. This year that "fool" was Marcus and his Grandpa, Paul. After having to abort their plan for a stone sheep in the SE Yukon they decided to head to a place Paul took a good ram this time of year 15 years ago. It is terrible looking country, I've seen it from the next closest mountain top.

The whole story will be printed up in one of the Huntin' Fool or B&C sometime but here's a happy hunter picture. Just a pig of a sheep at 9 yrs old, 43 inches with big bases and scores 172 + green. Large bodies grow large horns. They had to stay overnight, had a grizzly visit, and decided to sat phone for backup to get down faster the next day. MArcus' uncle had been in there a few times as a teenager and hiked in to help pack out.

I was miles from them, sitting in my boat drinking tea, shooting buffy's over decoys and complaining to Mac bout a new leak in my rubber boots.

If the weather allows, Mac has a plan to try for a ram for himself this weekend coming up, but in a much less nasty place. We'll see.

Please pass on the cheers to Marcus for taking that extra special Dall ram. To find a trophy like that is breath taking. WOW! Mike, what were the bases? That is a monster ram for being just 9 years old.

Congratulations Marcus, a truly fantastic looking sheep. Looks amazing. Please let us know when you have written the whole story. I like the story even more because I can hear the "experts!" shaking their heads about hunting that time of year. Just goes to show were there is hard work persaverance and a bit of luck geat things happen and it does not get much better than that in the hunting world. Well done again. Don't forget to buy your grandad a beer, bet it was difficult to tell who was the proudest you or your grandad, sure you will be repeating the story to your grandchildren. Shame you and your dad couldnt make it out for some pheasants last year.
A very envious Englishman, ;-)

That is a STUD!

Considering how much pics can flatten out a slope, I can't imagine how steep that really is. Looks like some rough country.

We're headed north on Saturday Mike. Andy said it's pretty darn dry. We're also going to Saskatchewan for part of this trek.

Hope you're having a good season.

Quite the Pig. Classic flair and width. Another inspiration to get skinny and head into the hills next fall. Can't let these young guns have all the fun to themselves.

Wow Mike, I try not to look at pictures like that. Gives me strange feelings.

I owe you a fish, btw.

WOW!

What a ram!! The Red Gods have smiled on Marcus. If this is his second ram, I would advise him to stop sheep hunting, as this one will be impossible to beat! WOW again!!

Mike thanks for sharing this with us. I don't think there is a grown man among us that is not jealous of what that young man has accomplished. Congratulations to him the rewards of hard work can be amazing at times.
