Got out this morning with the pup. Birds are definitely leaving but we were surprised to take a few BW teal. We managed to give Drake some work. Here he is with Matt, who had to finish the job so the dog could catch up.

Sometimes you get so caught up in the scenery that you forget to watch for birds. That is the Calgary skyline on the right and fresh snow on the mountains on the left. It was mid 20s before sunrise but warmed up to 33° by the time we quit 2 hours later.

Great photos. Can't believe y'all are still seeing bluewings. But with those temps I am guessing they will be finally moving out.

Carl, it is especially surprising considering we have had several snowfalls. I am done guessing what happens next.

Thanks for those pictures, Paul. I sure enjoyed seeing Drake. Glad you are still able to hunt.

It was 82F here yesterday and sure doesn't feel like duck hunting temps.

Same here Al. We are at 42* at sunrise this morning but will hit at least 76.
Doesn't feel like late October, once again our weather pattern is 2-3 weeks behind the historical norm.
Is Drake one of your pups?

Enjoyed the photo's Paul. Thank You.

BW's are like Ruddy Ducks, they can turn up in the darnedest places at non conventional times. That's what's so rewarding about waterfowling. Ya never know...

We have the water, food, wind and colder temps here now. All we need are more waterfowl.

Our bird feeder has been doin' steady business for the last 2 1/2 days. Lots of new arrivals to keep me smiling.

Tis The Season!

Drake is one of Al's bunch. Out of Habi and Chip and is now 13 months old. Couldn't be happier with him.

WOW! I can't believe those pictures. Looks like actual duck hunting weather there. Everything is still real green around here with temps yesterday in the low to mid 80's. Played 3 sets of tennis yesterday and had sweat dripping off of me. Can't really get into duck hunting mood yet even though it's just a couple of weeks away. I need to get my stuff out and fine tune for the season start. But with photos like those I'm starting to feel the fever coming on!

Wow.
We are just the opposite.
82* and dry, dry, dry.
Only ducks to be seen are resident woodies, mottled ducks and park ducks.
Not a single migrant has arrived that I can tell.
Haven't even seen a coot yet, they are two weeks behind schedule.

Drake is a good looking hunting partner there Paul! my wife keeps pestering me for another pup, we just aren't ready for one yet though. Maxx is a handful as it is...I think she's pushing for a lap dog though.

Have a great season!
Steve

Thanks Steve. He is maturing into a great dog. Interesting point... I had to put him on a leash as he did not like being in the pit blind and there was no place for him outside of it. We are getting there bit by bit.

I friend has a young lab that is half the size of Drake. Think your wife would go for that?

No more pups for us just yet Paul, as much as I would like to get one. Maxx is only four, actually his birthday is on Monday (Halloween). Maybe that explains why he acts the way he does sometimes. Anyway, our other dog is getting up there, she's more of a house cat than a dog. Never hunted, never will. She doesn't like getting her toes wet. Maybe in a few more years when she passes and Maxx settles a bit. He still has a lot of learning to do.

I would love to have a good lab half the size of Maxx or Drake...He's kind of outgrowing the sneakboat.
