We have completed the purchase of the Mighty Layout boys assets and now own all the molds and Website name and will be carrying on the name along with the logos and website. But best of all we plan to bring you many of the boat line up included the every popular Chuck Huff which will be renamed. Along with the gunship, higbea and 2 of the 3 layout boats. the classic and supermag. The supermag will have to be retooled due to the condition of the molds and the quality of the molds just isnt there for us. But for now we are building the classic and supermag and the prices are amazing. stop by Pointe Moullie show in Michigan to see them. We have changed the way they are built and I believe you will be very happy with them. We plan to put most of our efforts of this purchase into the sneak boxes and pond box. A line we felt we could greatly improve and benefit from by owning them. Look for the first Renamed boat at Tuckerton hopefully. Your going to want to see this boat. Thank You.

Funny., for 10 years you have been ranting on every website, how inferior the MLB layouts are....

It seems I remember reading on WorkingDecoys.net back around 2007 or so Tony was getting out of the decoy business too. Now I understand he bought the Herters molds and inventory from Cabelas. Business philosophies and opportunities change daily. After piloting HuntinDaves Chuck Huff around the river I was pretty impressed at least with the one he bought. Who knows maybe there will be one in my backyard some day. If there are problems with the boats hopefully he'll develop a better craft at an affordable price.

Thanks guys for the comments. We will do our best to make these products even better than they were before. Improving on already great designs. And the sneak boats are our main interest. the Higbee, Huff and gunship will be reborn and better than ever. Anyone with info regarding issues or comments on these boats are more than welcome via email, PM or even here.

Thanks again.

Any chance you have a picture of the Gunship? I did some research online and all of the old archived posts only contained links which are no longer active because of the MLB site being closed. I would be interested in seeing what their 17'er looked like.

Chad, very few of these boats were built. Its said to be a enlarged version of the wigeon. Looking at the molds it appears to be very similar to the BB3 only bigger. Here are the specs of of the boat.

Overall length; 17' 2.5"
Width at Beam, above waterline; 78"
Width at Beam, below waterline; 68"
Width at Transom 58"
Transom height 20" (requires longshaft, if conventional outboard is used).
Max. HP 45

US Coast Guard Certified (tested at their test site in Maryland) for 4 persons, 1,390# motor/gear.
Cockpit dimensions;
Length of Cockpit 96"
Width in front 42"
Width in amidships 48"
Width at Stern 36"
Depth of boat, centerline, and amidships 28" to cockpit coaming.
Fiberglass construction.

I believe 3 or 4 is all that was built. Jamie Stone has one of his own that I was able to see. Also i believe late 2005 there was a big article in wildfowl magazine about the boat. Wish I had a copy to share. maybe someone here does?

It is a great shallow water hull but i believe is a displacement hull rather than a planing hull but Still a huge market out there for this style boat when built properly.
It will take some time to put the pieces back together and work a build schedule up for the Old Huff and gunship boats but once they are done they should be hot items. The Huff and Gundship designs are great ones. just needs some tweaking.

Edit, I found the USCG test results for the gunship and it shows a few photos during testing. I'll try to get them scanned and uploaded when time permits.

Tony bought and sold or is attempting to sell all the Herters molds he picked up. He has hired another company to make decoys for him under the Homer Decoys logo, they are not from Herters molds but are about the same size birds.

Tony-

If you had the time to scan and post them, that would be great. would love to see their old gunship.

Another Member Daniel G. Banting has or had a MLB Gunship as well. His last log in was in Dec of 2014 so he was still visiting last season. Maybe he'll see this and chime in. I've only seen the ad Mark had on the MLB site. I'd love to see someone standing by one in a photo. I remember thinking the boat was out of proportion to the guys sitting in it in the ad picture and wondered if it was photoshopped.

Hello to all:

(Strange the way twists of fate work. I have not been on this site for a while, see below. The first time back in some time I come across this thread!?)

First, yes I do own a MLB Gunship. ( serial #1 )

Now the back story. I used to hunt out of this boat with my best friend in the world, Gary Hunt. Gary died prematurely at the age of 47 three years ago. His death tore my heart out and I have not shot a duck out of that boat since.

I was approached this summer by a man who had learned from the internet that I owned that model of boat and that he was interested in buying one. He took the boat home with him and was going to send me a check. He then called me to say that he had reconsidered. That, was some of the best news I had in a long time as I had begun to recount all of the time that Gary and I had spent in that boat. I am picking "our" boat back up in the morning!!!!!

And, I'm hoping to shoot a pile up birds out of that boat with Gary's young Son Angus.

Life is good!!

I would be happy to send anyone any info or pictures they might like if they wish to contact me.

Regards to all,

Dan
