Migration Sensation

One of my favorite times of the year in Ohio.

Not being in a flyway the duck hunting season in Ohio can be hit or miss but this time of year I can always count on
ducks filling Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area in Wayne/Holmes County Ohio.

Being only two miles away I've been able to spend some hours in the marsh the past three days with the Nikon and I've enjoyed
hundreds of pintails and many wigeon, swans, ringers, spoonies, cranes and of course mallards.

At 5,500 acres Killbuck Marsh is the largest marsh outside of the Lake Erie zone and one of the top song bird areas in Ohio and surprisingly gets very little traffic outside of hunting season.

Grab your cameras or binoculars and get out of the house. Winter is almost over !!!!

I'll load pics in the next day or two.

Welcome John. Wish I could find time to do a little bird watching myself. Saw some Redheads while driving by Firestone Country club this weekend.

With all the rain this past weekend, I see that the River stage will hit 41+ tomorrow. May be a good day to get back in the sloughs and see what's around, especially in the fields that will flood. I was hoping it would head closer to flood-stage (50') and hang there for a few days, but it looks like it will peak there.

We still have a good number of birds down here. Drove past a little overflow area that has been planted in cypress, and probably 50 birds lifted up out of it after I pulled over to watch.

Pintail, shoveler, gadwall, and mallards were all putting around. That area also will hold ringnecks, hoodies, wood ducks, and geese once in a while, too...

I had hoped to take the digital back and get photos, but the birds are so spooky they flushed with the vehicle 100 yards away...

It's Arkansas...............you'd be spooky too.......... especially if someone is driving a truck or even a mini-SUV...

I'm just sayin'.....if it is close enough for the ducks to see the gun racks, its too late for the ducks....

.....must be a south of the mason-dixon line thing, reminds me of NC....lol

No ducks here yet. This is one of four that showed up two weeks ago.
