Missing Kayak

Hey guys and Gal,

I had a my kayak go missing from my yard this weekend. I know it is a long shot that someone on here may have info, but I do know there are some local duck hunters that frequent this forum. So, if you see an Old Town, Predator K 140 around the Millbrook, Lagrangeville or Pawling New York areas please private message me, contact the NY State Troopers at troop K, or the NYS Encon Officers. They have been notified and are aware of what happened. Please do not post names or pictures here on the forum.

At the time it went missing it had tan bungee tied around it, with burlap strips tied on for camo. The attached pictures are of my friends kayak. He bought his a week or two after I did, but they are exactly the same kayak.

I'm sure it will not be returned, but who knows. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry to hear your kayak was stolen. I hope the bastard is caught, or at least karma catches up with him.

Yea it sucks. Talking with the NYS Troopers was an eye opener. Apparently auto theft has made a big uptick in our area. Supposedly a group out of Connecticut, using kids 16 and under. NY's Bail Bond Reform Bill is much to blame for the increase in crime. "Do want you want. No consequences."

This stuff really pisses me off. Now that the US has tossed in the towel on the war on drugs you'd think they'd get back to the basics as well as go after cyber criminals and scammers. Doesn't seem to be the case.

Zane, it's worth a shot here, you never know. I had a couple of motors stolen a few years ago, I put up signs within 5 miles both directions, offered a reward, and I never got the motors back. But I did eventually find out who stole them. The dude was wearing an ankle bracelet at the time, I found out where he worked(people in the area knew him), he drove by the place every day on his way, and him and his buddy just decided to grab them one day. The state police had put a detective on it, he was a nice young guy, he ended up finding another fugitive during the course-no doubt friends with my thief-but never found the motors. They were gone the night they were stolen to some other crack head fence. But I've never had another problem, word got back to him that we knew who he was and where he lived in case I needed the cops again (the last people he wanted to see). Maybe I should have called his probation officer, but I had nothing concrete on him.

It's going to get worse before it gets better out there, but I think we've turned the corner and people are getting really fed up with certain things, just my gut being out and about. You can feel it in society I think. Good luck with your quest and sorry to hear about the kayak.
 
That really sucks. Had to be someone who saw you loading/unloading it and came back. I hope you get it back but unfortunately, as you know, its doubtful.

Unfortunately this is nothing new, thievery seems to go in cycles.

Back during the 1998/99, I had my boat trailer stolen at the boat ramp while out hunting. Cops said is was probably in Louisiana by time I reported it.

A few years later, there was a wave of motor thefts off of boats kept in boat houses. Yep, pull up to a boat house in the middle of the night, cutting cables and unbolting 50-90 HP engines off of transoms, dropping them into their "work boat" and taking off for their drop point. They'd hit 1-3 boats a night on random nights.
Turned out to be a network of thieves, they got careless and were eventually caught.

Now its porch pirates stealing Amazon, FedEx & UPS packages.

People suck.
 
Zane, that sucks. I'm in your general area and have an extra kayak that is suitable for hunting. Want to borrow it for the remainder of the season?

This right here is the reason that the DHBP is the only online community that I consider to be "family".

Try taking out a ad in the local paper with pics. If they get caught, Prosecute, I let the guys go and they kept it up. Don't listen to lawyers, they are good boys, BS...

Thank you for the offer. That is a very kind gesture, however I have my pirogue and an old beater Radisson canoe to use. I use the kayak was my "Go To " for low water/ long mud drags. Time to put the poor old Radisson to work again. LOL

I'm glad you have a backup. I also tend to hunt out of a kayak more than anything else. I was just out this morning in one of my kayaks, with some success. They're so useful on the smaller waters.
