Missouri Duck hunting

My girlfriend, the dog and me are considering moving from central Iowa to Kansas City Missouri. I was wondering if anyone was from there and could tell me what the hunting is like? Id hate to move to where the duck hunting is horible...LOL. I have read that there are alot of waterfowl management areas which require you to draw for a spot....with this kind of system what happens if you dont get a spot... do you not get to hunt and have to go home? I have only ever hunted in Iowa and most all of the public is first come first serve except for Odessa area. Is there public ground in Missouri like that or is everything a draw? Any info on Missouri hunting would be great!! Thanks!

Dan,
There aren't any ducks in Missouri, stay in Iowa!! :)

Honestly, there are PLENTY of opportunities in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Many of the areas managed by the MO dept of Conservation are as you describe and yes, if you don't win the morning lottery, you have to go elsewhere. I wouldn't avoid the state for a lack of duck hunting opportunities if that's what you're asking. With a little bit of time, you'll find more than enough to keep you happy. If you do decide to move this way, give me a shout and we can talk more specifics.

Scott

Dan, I am living in the "duck desert" of SW Missouri but still find birds. North of Kansas City is some good areas for Snow goose and you will find some pretty decent duck hunting just south of you. Drop me a line if you need some more details. Dave
