MN Duckhunter build

What do you mean...... pre LaCross ???? There needs to be a full demonstration at LaCross. You don't want to get Hunting Dave ticked off.

By the way Andrew there is usually a get together once a year at LaCross and you are invited. Ed bring the beer. I have a picture of that some where.

Pete, First of " I an't asceered of ol Dave" ;-). What I was sugesting was a practice session which would of course include boats and maybe a beer. That way we will be ready for the big show. Andrew of course you are invited.

A practice session?????? I am beginning to think that a practice session is all you Minnesota boys can handle. :>) :>) hehe

Hi Pete,

I plan on being there this year if there is a get together. I'll bring beer if Pete McMiller brings pie....;-)

Any one with some boat mod info for me?

Any tips on the best location in the twin cities to get Marine Grade Plywood?

has anyone got some pictures of a modified Gator Duckhunter, there are not to many on their new forum, I guess there was quite a few on the old forum.

I am also looking for an outboard trim unit off a small (9.9-15hp)( Used would be best, to save a few bucks) to allow me to trim the motor more easily under full power as it is hard with the amount of torque the motor puts out at full throttle.

Check your local lumber yard for the wood. I know Lamberts here in Woodbury will order special material if they don't carry it.

As far as the motor part, private message Tom Scholberg - he has access to lots of motor stuff. Twin City outboard is a goood place to go as well

Andrew, I have places for marine plywood but they're at home, look for a reply tonight.
GOOD LUCK on the T&T for a small outboard, never seen a good one for much smaller than a 50hp. I do have some ideas but we should chat about them. I do have LARGE aftermarket T&T way too big for what you need and some bits and pieces of others.

Do you have any more pictures of that boat, it has an interesting waterline. It looks like the rocker is removed but it still tapers to a narrower stern, from the looks of the upper deck line at the rear of the boat.

I would add to check out the Gator Boats forum, there are several guys on there with modded Duckhunters and they can steer you in the right direction as far as materials and sources go.

I posted over on the Gator Boat Forum first, not much action over there, but Brad did say he used 3/8" on the bottom or his mini to save some weight.

So here are my thoughts at the moment,

Keep it as close to full size as possible, remove the rocker from the boat to make it more of a planing hull.

I am trying to weigh up the pros and cons, been I could build a new motor but I am happy with what I have got (maybe make a few tweaks to get things a little more dial and easier to work with on the water)

I don't really want to remove to much if any out of the width (maybe a few inches to split the difference from the full size in the middle of the boat and the stern of the boat)

Any comments or suggestions would be helpful in this process, I plan to make a couple of different options in balsa wood or poster card to see how they might look.

Hi to every one, I am new to the site and I would just like to say that I really like it. Every one is down to earth and really helpful to all the members. I built a duckhunter a few years back. Its great boat and I have used it alot. I built it to the plans for the most part. The only mods I made to it was I put a higher combing on it and fabricated trim tabs to help with planing. I run a 15 hp mercury on it and have had no problems with them (trim tabs). That being said they did help bringing the bow down but the boat doesn't plan all the way (due to the design of the hull). I am on a tug boat till wednesday, If you want to see any pics let me know and I will post when I get off.

I'll get some more pics out tomorrow. Mostguys will just stop lofting at the widest part of the beam and keep that measurement all the way to the stern. It is no more pleasing to the eye than any piece of 4X8 plywood. What I did was drasticaly reduce the rocker to give it a fair line down the side. ( A fair line just means pleasing to the eye) The boat is 56 inches across the transom as opposed to the 38 (I think) inches on the orginal DH II. It planes just great.

Ok I did a search and did not find anyone posting about Auto Bailers / self Bailers, I have used them on sailboats and they seem to make more sense to me for evacuating water fast without having to rely on a bilge pump entirely.

Any input? There are many different styles and types out there including home made varieties.

I would use a cross hatch pattern in the 6 oz range

easy to work with layer to propper thickness

I bought a large role off of ebay at a great price

best place to buy epoxy for boat building is aero marine best price I have found

for seems take and cut at a bias for added strength
