Momarsh fatboy DP

Does anyone have one or know much about them? What are the pros and cons? Are they worth the money?
Thanks

Scott,
The owner of MoMarsh posts here from time to time. He's a great guy. All of the boats I've seen have been very well built (both FatBoy and FatBoy DP). I see quite a few as they are built in MO and I hunt the public areas there quite a bit with friends that have MoMarsh boats. Great boats that are as good as you'll find for marsh hunting. They're bigger than some of the other options out there (poke boat, etc) which has pros and cons. They are much more stable, but a little more difficult to hide. Note that I'm not saying they don't hide well! On the other end, they aren't designed to handle BIG water like a true layout or Jon boat would.

If you do a search on here for MoMarsh or FatBoy or FatBoy DP, you'll get plenty of photos and accounts of guys using Ira's boats. If I was in the market for a boat, they'd be at the top of my list.

Scott,

I've owned a Fatboy for 3 years and now I'm hunting out of the DP. MoMarsh makes excellent boats for the marsh. Also, Ira is a member here and is a first class business man. As for the pros and cons, try the "search posts" function and you will find a ton of info. Over the years we have hashed out a lot of details and opinions about marsh boats and I feel that the MoMarsh boats sit on top of the heap.

Let us know what ya think.

Scott,

I have an original style Fatboy and power it with a Rickshaw longtail motor. I love the boat. You can't go wrong with a MoMarsh. As a matter of fact this is my second one.

Thanks for the info guys, Im currently trying to sell my TDB so I can purchase a smaller boat. I'm torn on if I should buy a marsh boat like the Momarsh or something along the lines of BBSB.

Thanks Ed, Can you give me a little more info on the motor? I'm interested in what terrain you run it through, speed and how boat and motor run on open rivers. Thanks Scott

Scott,

The Rickshaw motors are a great little motor designed by a guy in Colorado. Great company to work with. Now it's not a real mud motor but it will get you there as long as you have some open water with say some grass or duck wart. It won't get you though cattails and heavy stuff but thats why you take a push pole. This is the type of marshes I hunt here in Iowa and Illinois.

You can check them out here.

Here is a vid I made running in one of the local marshes (if it works).

The motor will push me, gun, 2 doz decoys and assortment of boat box, shell bag...etc around 4 to 5 miles per hour. Not real fast but it sure beats walking

Also check Orion Motors. Momarsh is a dealer for Orion motors.

Hope this helps.

I made a couple of hunts with a guy that has a DP this season. I hunted out of my Kara; he in the DP. The DP a really nice boat. He has the DP blind. With that setup, the dog is behind him. He pretty much melted into the short rice stubble we were hunting in. We murdered 'em. I was surprised from what he told me it's a little heavier than my Kara. The cockpit is the same size, but the boat overall is a bit shorter than the Kara. I like how he can pull the plug and drain; I can't do that. Also he can drag it behind his ATV; I wouldn't do that with my Kara. I thought about buying one but decided just to make a blind just like the DP blind instead for my Karas. If/when my Karas ever wear out I will probably just buy a DP instead of building another Kara just because I've got too much to do nowadays.

Ed.
