Monkey wrench and a pair of pliers...

Yesterday, mother nature threw a monkey wrench into our teal season yesterday with 5-7 inches of rain. Our duck club water levels are at the whim of the Illinois River. Yesterday, the river rose 5 inches and put our club totally under water. Ever wonder what it looks like to tow 2 skiffs and a sneakboat? Here you go...

Thank you to Todd Petri and Dave Ludington for bailing me out on short notice and helping me get my boats off the levee.

And, the plier part, it's now a standard tool we carry in our boats to pick up Asian Carp out of our boat when we're getting pelted. I took one to the head yesterday. I think Dave cracked a rib laughing... :)

Pat,
Sounds like the tool kit needs a flak vest and a helmet as well. Glad you're alright. From what I've heard those carp can cause some serious injuries.

Shoot, Pat, 5 inches is nothing. Most of my spots fluctuate 5+ feet every day. LOL!

Even without the tide, 5 inches of rain here would bring rivers up a lot more than 5 inches, but I'm guessing you have a lot more flat, low land near the river bank than we do.

Time to invest in a mooring instead of pulling the boats ashore?

Pat send some of that rain south, you can keep the carp. I salivate about having 5 inches of rain because it would keep the 2nd Cut rice fields full most of the season. We only have about 250 of 750 acres in water. Would like to see more fields in sheet water about ankle to calf deep.

Safety moment: Wear an off road motorcycle helmet when running the river.

Good luck and have a safe season!
