We have been getting out on the luxury ice we have this year. 12 inches. Dosnt happen every one down this way. No monsters so far but we are putting our time in. Have been able to show 4 new boys and two dads what all the fun is about and that is reward enough.

Thanks Lee,
it is a ball to have boys and a fire, esp if someone remembers to bring some sausage or other treats.
We catch trout, perch, bass, salmon, pickerel and pan fish. Pike are close by and we are still trying to get a Walleye.

This was a ball today.
One Dad and one Daughter.

Bob ,

Looks like you guys are having a great time , I have yet to make it out this year , ha what the heck is the trick to the hand auger ? bought a Mora last year and when trying it out a few days ago the damn thing dances around the ice like a figure skater!!! i am now looking into a gas auger to replace the hand auger . Enjoy the ice !!!

Dave,
I have a strike master http://www.strikemaster.com/lazer_hand.html and love it. I used to fish with a pal with a mora and just about died drilling the holes. Caved in and bought my own. I drilled over 20 holes on sat and 10 today. Now he has one too. We use 6 inch and except for a huge white catfish that got stuck, we have pulled some big un's thru up to 12 inches of ice. Some big pike coming out of some RI lakes this year.
How is the project KARA going.

Last year I saw an ad for the Nimrod, an adaptor that fits a 1/2" Cordless drill to your Ice Auger. Being slightly skeptical I decided to make one for Todd and I. Well to say he was skeptical is an understatement, however we can auger out roughly 10 6" holes per battery, and I'm talking about 45 seconds per hole. The pre made ones are pretty cheap on ebay and every cent worth it in our opinion.

Just an FYI,

P.S. Stinking Ice is all screwed up down here, everything freezes up good and the next day it's in the 60's and 70's, wife thinks I'm ate up for not wanting the warm days.

Same here Kyle,
we get looks all the time asking for one more week of cold to set it good enough till the season is over at the end of the month.
Do you get the adapter to work with a Mora Auger? I know a ton of guys who would use the drill if it worked.

Great pics!! My kids and I make the annual pigrimage to Maine every winter to do some ice fishing. Great fun for kids and adults alike .......... How many times a day did you hear "FLAG!!!!" ????

Bob ,

great tip !!! Does the Strikmaster have a center cutting blade ? The Mora does not so the blades allow the auger to float all over the ice until you can get it started then it just takes for ever to get it to drill an hole , i have the 6 inch version as well , A buddy of mine has fished a local pond in Westerly he has been taking some huge pike to 32 inches down there , Thsi weekend will my 1st time out looking forward to it . Kara is ready to cover with plywood , so it is still behind schedule but we are getting there looking forawrd to using it early season 09 .Thanks again

The one I have does not have a center spud but does not need it. Th blade angle is much steeper and it does not wander. It will also drill old holes no problem. I know the mora does not like to do that.
I bet you could hook up a drill adapter for what you have to get you by but if you like to fish you may want to get an upgrade sometime. The nills hand augger is sup. to be awesome too. But I have never used one.

Great Pics of the kids out enjoying the ice. That strikemaster hand auger is awesome. I used mine for the first time saturday and it works like a dream. I've used an antique Winnipesaukee(sp?) chissel my whole life up until saturday and I'm now hooked on the auger. I still can't believe how fast you can drill a hole with that auger. We too have about a foot of ice in my area.

One thing I forgot to mention. Do not bang the auger blade on the ice as they are very sharp and I think they can be chipped which screws with the cutting.

The nimrod adaptors are internally threaded and have two holes drilled through the main shaft for augers that use the cross bolt attachment. The only thing we did was cut an aluminum disc 2" larger than the auger in case the auger comes loose from the drill chuck, plan for the worst hope for the best. We start out slow with good pressure to keep it from chattering all over the place once you get it about 1/2" in let'r rip. Far as I know they work with mora, strikemaster, and jiffy Ice augers.(If it doesn't list on ebay, go to cabelas web site and it lists which adaptor works with which augers).
