More vintage Illinois River Duck Club footage...

Thanks Pat. I was able to get the 2nd choice to work on my computer. I sure enjoyed the footage taken from back in the 30s. Those men had some great shooting. Out of curiosity, is that hole/area still being used or is it off the beaten path from the river changing its course over all of those years?

Pat, Thanks again for sharing a bit of history. After 2 total hip replacements, my days of walking in "gumbo" are over. But the video reminded me of the "fun" I had in those productive spots. I also think it takes practice to shoot and hold your smoke in your mouth at the same time. Anyway watching your videos and looking at our members decoy projects on this site gets me thinking of fall and the enjoyment many of us experience.

Last I heard the club was still operating. It is S of Hennepin and n of henry on east side of the river.

Who needs a 4x4 when you've got a trusty model A to back down into the swamp? Interesting to see that they were using jerk cord motion decoys way back then. Thanks for finding that historical footage

Gary - I agree on the jerk cord and, it looks like it's tied to a Charlie Perdew mallard decoy. Today, that would be jerking about $4,000-$5,000. :) Pat

Pat;
What did that decoy sell for at the time the movie was made? Looked at it again and it seems like just about everyone used hip boots, and most of the guys went over the top and were wet to the waist most of the time...........no Gortex jackets, or breathable waders for them!!! That would be OK early in the season, but pretty tough when dealing with ice and snow later on. From the size of that wood pile it looks like they kept that cabin plenty warm, and it wouldn't take you too long to dry out after a December dunking.
