Motion Decoys

Friend of mine from Jacksonville came down to hunt the STA's in West Palm Beach last weekend. In their truck was a bunch of decoys with flaps cut into the backs. I couldn't resist asking. They were home-built motion decoys. Each had a three-sided cut in the back with velcro to hold them shut. I made a turn button out of a piece of plastic. Inside is a "Weasle Ball" - a crazy toy they sell in Cracker Barrel and other novelty catalogs & stores. I epoxied a chunk of foam in the bottom of the decoy with a round pocket in the center, then epoxied the bottom of the weasle ball into the foam. This bottom carries an off-center motor that shakes real good on one AA battery. I had one in the water for two hours, still ran strong! One guy had his just set into a blob of spray can foam. Weasle balls are $7.99. Mine took 20 minutes to make. Great for those calm mornings. Better than throwing rocks or mudballs to stir up the water near your decoys.

You North Dakota residents can ignore this as it came from a non-resident North Dakota farm owner and hunter. Besides, you guys don't hunt over water with decoys anyway!

I'm thinking that it would work as a duck-themed marital aid in the off season.
