Mushroom identification

Golfing yesterday my friend and I noticed these mushrooms growing on a dead walnut log. We both thought they were sulfur shelf or "Chicken of the Woods" and are edible. His father hunted mushrooms and he remembered them as being good. Curious if anyone disagrees with their identity and if not, any experience cooking or comments on any experience with them.

Yes and yes. Chicken of the woods. They are edible, intend to take on the flavor of whatever you cook them with.

We always called them a sulfur shelf. I often find them when hunting early season. They really show up good in the woods. A guy I used to hunt with would fry them with some bacon and onions.

Actually was even par till found mushrooms on the 6th hole. Lost focus.

Had in barley soup today and were excellent.
