I actually like locust if I'm not cutting around it or handling the thorns. Both black and honey locust turn wonderfully and are very hard, especially black, making them good duck call woods. Black locust is nearly rot proof and a perfect boat building wood in addition to fence posts and other outdoor uses. It outlasts treated wood even when left bare. Were I to build a traditional BBSB I'd replace white oak with black locust. I have a stash should I ever want to take on that project.
