My first BBSB

Damn...that is one fine build. Nice job - I learned a lot seeing so many detailed photos. Enjoy hunting out of it!

Will you do a centered daggerboard or offset as is true tradition? Mine was already centered, so I maintained it's position, I am torn on what way is better.... off-center does open space, but also completely blocks off one side, and does not sail as well. In either case, plan out what you decided to do under decks and get it done (lights, wiring) before you install the daggerboard trunk. I can't reach all the way to the bow with it in the way, and need a skinny person to yet tie off some wires for me. Of coarse, finding the center of your mast step in your deck will be tough now unless you marked it somehow? I positioned my mast step while the old deck was still intact. Have you thought about your rigging? I need to make new as mine is rotted out, though the sail is in good shape. I have the mast and boom, but do not have the sprit for a pattern, at least for the basic dimensions. I hope to make the rigging my post season project, but the wife thinks a bathroom remodel should come first!? We will see....

Not fishing for compliments, but can you tell me about the clamps, would you see any changes on the next set? I modeled them after the originals that Ron had, but only based on a picture I took, and having used them, and knowing the problems with the other home-made sets that someone else had made that did not pull along the right axis. Did mine work OK, or did they too want to ride up off the planks? I thought about a captive rail along the bottom, but then the plank thickness would be limited.

Dave,
cool, I was wondering if you used something soft like the old leaded and caulked(Twisted cotton) seam planking, or glued it in hard.

That Sika is nice stuff and keeps its flexibility a long time.

Your note about the sailor really hit home.
My mother found these color slides from around 1940. My great aunt it turns out, had her own Barnegat sailor that she used in CT. Her family had ties in Jersey. Up till this summer I had only seen a black and white of the boat, but it was always in the back of my mind. These pictures, and going to see the Tuckerton Seaport have made a Big problem for me. I really want to build one now.

Thanks again for showing us the build. It really shows the process in a helpful way.

Hey Dave D. I'm thinking a centered dagger board. (Just my preference). I'm probably gonna put in those Toller LED cockpit lights but no permanent navigation light (the lines of the boat are just too pretty). I don't have any sailing rigging right now but will pursue it in the spring.

Your clamps were nice. It seems that all those chain clamps want to eventually "walk" at one point or another. We were just stoked to have them as you can see the results!

Sweet job Dave. Glad I figured out the difference between Tuckerton & Mystic...finally. :)
You're a true craftsman.
