My new boat well 1978 Lund new to me

Sweet Dave! I don't know how I missed this thread. This is a great project, well conceived and designed, great looking workmanship...very cool!! Hitch

Thanks for the pictures of the floor. I think I'm going to add this thread to my favorites. Still looking for an 18 like this but still might do this to my 16'. I just wish I had some welding skills so I could do it myself.

Its looking great. Can't wait to see the final product. This will be a very nice dual purpose boat.

Dave,
very sweet, I like the the mod's a lot. I also like your "Shady Side" sticker you have on the back.... I happen to have a nice one in a special color that was given to me years ago that I think I should now RE-GIFT back to you in order that you put it on your new boat once it is painted. Just PM me your addy and I will be sure to send it right out to you!!!

Have a good one, you carving much any more?

Lol eric that pink one ur stuck with, wasn't that from the slikmiester???? Not much of any carving between work, life and call making just hard to find time anymore. Lookin forward to getting her done for sure. Still in hope they call me to come giter today.

Yeah Pat when I started to look I was dead set on a 18' for sure, so many 16's out there, I found this one in central
Iowa Trailer is a 76 but new Hubs, Axel and Tires w/bearing buddies. Motor is a 1987 Evinrude 40hp Tiller so thats
good. The boat was set up decent for fishing so it cost me a lil more than I wanted to but the hull was the right one.

Finding the 18's is just not that easy and I like lunds rep from back in the day also. Cant wait to get it back then
drop off for paint bid and get it book into them asap.

Dave! Wow, What a great job. That boat will hold a lot of decoys, fishing gear or whatever. Nice rebuild. Thanks for posting. Can't wait to see it all done.

ayep, that is right. Well, him and Grant. Found it the other day doing some cleaning, I will have to snap a pic of that and send it to you. What calls are you making now? I haven't see you post one in quite a while. Boat looks good, I can't wait to see it paint.

Got the Rig back from the FAB Shop yesterday, stoped at painters and got my bid on the
paint and Hydro-Turf for the decking. Got home did some wire brushing on the mainly trans area
where there was old glue to get the hull clean and ready for them to prep then do their thing.
Got it all done and will take to them before i leave for a business trip today.

Heres a few new pics. Got the motor mount on and its PERFECT! They even had
the motor mounted on there already but I forgot to get a pic. In a hurry to get
it cleaned up and ready to go.

I will get the trailer back for 5-7 days to work on it at least!

2 weeks It should be on the River..... I HOPE!

Well a lil snag we water tested the tub and had some issues on the bottom so the painters/boat builders are gona
TIG the issues that need it and Steel Flex the entire bottom. SO put me in about a 2 week delay behind. I got the
trailer back friday night and stripped it of everything I needed to.

2 of the bunk holders had broken ears so I made new ones and got them all rust removed and primed with
rusty metal primer then top coated satin black today also. Got new rollers commin for the keel tomorrow
to put in the brakets.

Now working on getting all the rust off the trailer, due to TEMPS not being above 50 for the next 10 days and
they will need the trailer back im going to use roll on bedliner for coating the trailer. YUP you can apply that stuff
from 33-95 degrees. So thats what im gona do. Tuff durable finish will hit it with 2 coats on a 45-50 degree sunny
day this or next week then put her all back together.

I think the wind guide bunk brackets that were on the trailer will be heavy duty enough.

Got it all wire wheeled and scuffed up ready for the herculiner next I guess. In hope to get

Slow dirty process that was.

Ok Herculiner.... PAIN IN THE AERSE to put on inside the tubes corners wow that was FUN! lol
but it looks good when I left it. Had to run the big propane heater in my buddys garage had it on
high and got to about 80 in there after 3 hours. 7 hours total start to finish. Got it coated nicely
was about 2 hours till the 1st coat was no longer tacky so had some down time. Thank god the
wife brought me some lunch and we sat out in the sun for a while. Got herculiner all over my arms
that I didnt see... long sleeve shirt GOOD IDEA!

Hers a Wet pic will have more tomorrow.

Now onto Lights, New rollers and bunks and carpet.

The boat has been steel flexed. I purchased a set of 4"x10" black bunk sliders and enders like I had on my old boat. but will that be ok with the steel flex and rivits?

looks good Dave,

Just my guess but depending on your ramps and water height over there, you might need one more keel roller between the bow stop and the current one you have. I find that my boat is just fine during the summer, but loaded with crap in the fall it was hitting the main beam half way up and would not be on the rollers. I added one more and life is good. Just watch it, may not be an issue for you.

Eric your 100% correct there was another one that was cut into the old steel grate that I took off
Im looking for another bracket for it. When the boat was on the trailer before the roller was 2 low
to do anything and the boat never even touched it. I have seen some that are adjustable for
height that might help. Just need to find the part local hate to order stuff when you cant
see it.

Progress not as much as I hoped for but were gettin there.

Well not much progress at the painters for some reason were on day 10 of waiting for
the STEEL FLEX to arrive. I gotta feeling that the gal didnt mail that check in right away
from the dealership to the company... Oh well what do ya do.
I did COMPLETE the trailer, I added some LED waterproof submersible guide lights. I did
not like how with the truck at night that you really couldnt see the trailer well. Since this
will be a Duck hunting rig also that means lots of early morning and late nights at the ramp.
Got them mounted and wires all plumbed up in flex tube thru the trailer frame so protect
them a lil more. Used the Herculiner on the Alum brackets to get rid of the SILVER and CHROME
look was tacky... yeah got to much time on my hands waiting for the boat. I also added the
front roller on the tube. I had to order the bracket online but its on and will keep the front
of the big barge from hitting my purty bedliner coating lol.
Here some more pics.... I love photos.

The motor is done and ready to go. New battery cables, new throttle cable a new gasket on one of the carbs
and shes all tuned up and running as well as a 2cyl 1987 is gona lol.

I have really enjoyed following this thread. Thanks for posting all the pictures. There are lots of good ideas there and a few seeds have been planted.

I like the guide lights. I might have to add those to mine.

I started messing with mine last night. I wanted to try to get more storage in the front casting deck. I found out the front casting deck was 2 layers of 3/4 inch plywood and the bottom layer was saturated and starting to rot. Over half the screws were stripped or rusted so bad they just broke when I tried take them out. It gave me a good excuse to buy a crowbar. I might be looking to go aluminum like yours but the top layer of plywood that is carpeted is still good. So if I use it I won't have to buy much and can save money.

No sore subject with me right now....... grrrrrr

They only have one spray booth and the steel flex is a 2 day process has to be 70 degrees
well mother nature aint cooperaiting and they have others duck boats that they build there
to be painted ect and im not ahead of them inline. Some nice 40K rigs lord wow he just
finished up a 20/72 for a guide in Wisconson dual 35hp pro drives all the works seats 6 hunters
6 heaters stove 4 burner oven lol. They even rigged up a power outlet that floats to run
the 6 moto (giggle) ducks and they can just unhook this floating outlet drop it in the water
and chase a cripple. Perty impressive.

But anyways not mine yet. Im getting the trailer OVERDONE moving the axel from under the springs
to over today....
