Looks fast. Don't worry, the duck boat paint won't add much weight.
I'm always interested by the regional differences in canoe style preferences.
Out here solo boats are rare, there isn't a huge premium on weight, and the "all around" boat that can do up to Class 3 whitewater and still be a decent lake boat. People like big canoes--anything under 18 feet is small, and there is a market for 20 foot freighters.
Over in the Adirondacks you see a lot of pack-style canoes--short, light, often better paddled with a kayak paddle.
In the BWCA it's all about lightweight for the portage and speed on the flats, and solo boats seem to rule.
Down south it's all about solo whitewater boats.
