My sons first youth waterfowl hunt was a flop!

Angry at myself. I know I could of had my son a couple of opportunities if Shoud of taken him to the river but I've been watching a loaded Farmpond everyday and it was loaded! I made the decision to hunt it.... Not a single bird. I have been seeing 25 30 birds. four different species.... I blew it

Nope you didn't blow it. You took a kid hunting, ducks or not it was better then almost anything else you could have been doing. Just take him to a good spot when the regular season starts and make sure it is still a hunt for him.

Real hunting is real hunting.

Is it still real hunting when the airboat doesn't start and you sit and talk at Denny's for three hours?

William, you did good, that's all part of hunting.

Chuck

Sounds like you did great, the birds on the other hand. Great job getting him out! Good luck to both of you during the regular season.

Tom

You taught him some of the best lessons, there are. We are all at the mercy of the birds, and perseverance pays off. You did Good, congratulations.

Let's see, two hunts means you have been successful twice. Way to go. Glad to hear that your son shot a duck. Did he clean it?

Excellent!!!
My boy started going with me when he was 7, sat and watched until he was 12. Took 2 seasons to finally hit a duck.
You've got yours on the right track. 2nd hunt and he wacks a nice mallard, I would say he's hooked!

My poor hunting buddy, we've been sharing a duck blind for 23 years, is as avid a duck hunter as there is. He's a champion decoy carver, we've built two duck boats together, he just loves duck hunting. He took is son Jimmy out when Jimmy was 12, no ducks that day, though we limited out the week before and after. Jimmy didn't see the attraction, he was just cold wet and miserable. It went like that for a decade, every time we brought Jimmy, no ducks would fly. Neil was devastated, he couldn't pass his love of waterfowl on to Jimmy. Deer and Antelope hunting, no problem, lots of success and Jimmy was hooked.

To this day Jimmy just tolerates duck hunting, he's 27 years old now. Be glad your son shot that duck first time out. I was hooked on my first trip at age 15.
