Recently, while googling a remedy for poison Ivy I came across the medicinal uses for common Plantain. Not the starchy, banana looking thing but the common weed in everyone's yard that we sometimes call snake weed.
Yesterday my son was over and playing catch with my granddaughters. He yelped when a bumble bee stung him right on the ankle bone. Right away I grabbed 3 young plantain leaves, chewed them up, and put the poultice on the sting and under the sock. Within a minute the pain was gone and all he felt was a little numbness after a few minutes.
BTW: Plantain, along with Jewel Weed are both remedies for Poison Ivy and Oak. Not sure about Sumac but I think they also work for that. I don't get the stuff personally but know a number of people who do.
