NDR - Air rifles?

I have a daisy adult pellet gun, shoots the small pellet, (177?) at 1,000 fps. Does the job on squirrels, rabbits. Definiately wouldn't work for raccoons, unless you could get a good head shot. Shunks maybe, again I would be looking for head shots only. The last rabbit I shot, bounced around and sprayed blood all over the shed and a person walk saw the whole thing. Mine is fairly quiet to shoot, I would say no where need a 22, however, the trigger is junk. Very heavy, takes alot to pull the trigger, generally if I am going to hit something, I need to brace the gun against the door way or side of the window.

I haven't had any problems skunks but we have alot of wood chucks or as we call them whistle pigs that give us trouble. If I can't catch them out of their den for a shot with the 22 I like to use rodent smoke bombs. Find their den and drop a couple of bombs down the hole and then cover up the entrance. There is no cleanup afterwards if you can bury their den entrance up. I can buy them at our local co-op and they come in a pack of five bombs. Good luck.
 
it will be the 4th of july tommorow, use your pistol, rifle, whatever, the neighbors will think its firecrackers. or you could get some c-4 like bill murray from caddyshack did and go all-out. i remember when i was a teenager i shot a possum with a broadhead in the gut.... he climbed up into the attic and stunk up the whole house with that dead nasty butt odor, i never told my parents to this day what i did. i should have shot him with the .410

22 short with a baby bottle nipple over the end of the barrel is a poor mans way to silence the shot. Good for two or three shots.

I'll be cautious and remind people that without the proper permits, possession of silencers is a federal offense and illegal in many states (be it a commerical silencer, pop bottle or baby nipple).
 
On that note check your local game laws RE removal of unwanted wildlife.
Not every state lets you have at it with the back yard wars.
Good luck with the skunk.. Have a few here that could use a bath per say.
 
Well I was gone Tues night and all day yesterday visiting with family for the 4th. I was telling my Dad what these darn skunks were doing to my yard and that they were living under the shed. When I told him that they would likely take a swim when caught he really started to make me feel guilty about that as and end and recommended I relocate them. So I had kinda decided, ok when I trap them I'll take them for a ride out into the country and dump them off. Then I get up for work this am and look out the backyard and can see new mounds of dirt in my freshly seeded yard.

Errrgghhhh these guys are really testing me...
 
Dump them at your dad's house...heh heh heh. Seems like relocated animals find their way back to the den . I never believed in relocating pests..you may be releasing sick city animals into the healthy ones out in the country. Drowning is actually pretty humane.
 
We actually debated about them spraying in the truck on the way to the dump site. I told him if he wanted them relocated he can come and pick them up in his blazer for transport.
 
If I'm not mistaken, in the state where I live it is illegal to relocate live trapped animals like skunks. If you're feeling law-abiding you might want to check that out in your state.

I have an ex co-worker that caught several in a hav-a-hart trap and used the sheet trick to move the trap. What happened after that, I can't say...

I also know these two guys who dispatched one with a pair of 12 guages and #7 birdshot in a state far, far away. It is my understanding that the offending skunk did not spray, but the skunk that was traveling with it did make quite a stink under the cabin porch. Mental note - next time shoot both of them... This was during the firearms skunk season in that state - which was agreed upon only after considerable debate and subsequent referencing of the state wildlife manual before dispatching the animal...

Update - Well somehow a trap has been placed near my shed where they are living and is baited with tuna. It appears as though the raccoons are getting to the trap before the skunks, if that's what the trap is there for. Each morning I notice that the trap has been moved and the bait is gone. Looks as thought it's being rolled over until the bait comes of the tray. I think that whomever is doing this will tie a bait on so the only way to get it is to go in the trap.
