On Thanksgiving, we have the option of ducks or Quail. For the past 3 years, we have chosen to chase Quail. This year my folks traveled out to join my family for Thanksgiving dinner. My folks are not hunters but have taken the courses and have joined me on a couple of occasions for a hunt. The hunt typically is my son, myself and the faithful little white Setter dog, Abby. Since my folks joined us for dinner, they chose to join us for the morning hunt. It was a beautiful sunny day with clear skies, while the temperature was in the early 30's with a mild wind of about 6-10mph. A side benefit to my folks joining us for the walk was my mom carried a camera to capture some photos. We spent a few hours chasing Quail and just enjoying a beautiful day with family being thankful for God's beautiful creation around us.
Some photos of the hunt.
About 30 minutes into the walk, we started finding some birds. Always good to see the little white dog do this:
and this:
then on of these:
and another one of these:
It is always nice when some of those end in some of these:
And of course Mom wanted a picture of the boys:
Then the boy ended up with another pointing Setter in the tall grass:
Mom and Dad were especially thrilled with this point. Abby was steady while Mom and Dad did a little walk around to get a "360" on the point:
It is especially nice when the bird cooperates too by staying down until the photos were taken so we could end the hunt with one of these:
Overall, the little white dog had 14 points which put a few birds in hand.
Most of all a great time was had by spending time with Mom, Dad and son in the field. I can't imagine a better way to spend time with family.
