NDR - Comet NEOWISE

Good morning, All~

One of my oldest friends and gunning partners came by last night for some sky watching. His son Cavan and my wife Susan joined us near the frog pond right behind the house.

Several Green Frogs are enjoying the Water Lilies and Pickerelweeds I brought in from another friend's lake.

The high heat (94 during the day) and humidity resulted in a heavy atmosphere in the otherwise clear enough night sky. Comet NEOWISE (a long acronym...) was best seen through binoculars. As the sky gradually darkened, I happened upon it first - with my 10X monocular.

I asked for this composition to show the Big Dipper, the comet and a treeline. The powerlines - and low clouds - were useful in locating the comet.

That's pretty cool Steve. I went out Friday evening to the St Marks NWR to run Belle in the water to run off some of her energy. We stayed out much later than I planned and I thought well how about we try to see the comet. It seemed to take forever for the sky to darken but eventually it did and I got to see it. It was pretty dang cool! I am glad a friend gave me a star chart to use to find it because there really weren't many landmarks to use to try to describe where to find it.

I like the picture with the big dipper in it.

Steve:

Great pics, thanks for sharing. I remember seeing the Hale-Bopp comet from 1997 night after night. I'm gonna have to get out and spot this one.

Very cool.
Not sure I will be able to see it with all the lights here in Tampa.
