NDR (except for some teal) a tribute to a friend

I did a post on my blog that the fly fishers among the group might enjoy. Ostensibly a step by step on tying a pattern my friend (pretty famous salmon fly guy), it's really more about my late friend. There's a link on my post to click that takes you to the actual post. It's a site that hosts "book" stories...rather than scrolling down a blog post, the pages turn. Kind of fun.
And I do speak at length about green wing teal feathers!

Gary, a lovely tribute and a lovely fly.

I'm a big fan of "flat-wing" style streamers and wet flies for brook trout fishing. There are a slew of these, many of which seem to have originated in New Hampshire.

The Harris Special and Woods Special are two of my favorites. Maynard's Marvel may be the most "famous".

I'm a huge fan of using Hooded Merganser flank in the place of the Wood Duck flank many of these patterns call for, even though it means I need to choke down a hoody breast or two every year to justify collecting the feathers. Your GW Teal flank has less downside!

There is a nice gallery of flatwing streamers here. As befits an Atlantic salmon fly, yours is far too elegant for such rough company . . . . . .

Jeff, I'm glad you liked the post. I too am a HUGE fan of Hoodie flanks...I rely on a couple forum members for those, and many of my teal and woodie feathers, too! I've tied a few Woods Special for folks over the years. New England has a rich streamer history, that's for sure! Thanks for the link, too!
