NDR: Franchi 48 AL question....

Any Franchi owners out there? I bought a Franchi 48 AL 20 gauge this past spring and put a case of ammo through it over the summer. Love the gun for clays and upland hunting. While up in Maine the past two days chasing timberdoodles, I noticed that I cannot unload shells from the magazine tube by pulling the carriage bolt back. The rounds stay in the tube. I am able to unload the tube by pressing the little release lever at the bottom/base of the tube. Not a big deal, but kind of a PIA. I can't remember now if I ever had to eject rounds using the bolt, but seems like it should work? Odd.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Was the fix an easy one? I'm thinking a spring or something broke or came loose. Not sure how to fix it, and I'm not really excited to send it out for repairs.

I should add, it does cycle rounds fine when firing.

Thanks for any help or ideas.

I don't know about on the 48 but a lot of semi-autos unload how you say you have been doing it. That is just how they are made. It does give you a way to easily change a round in the chamber or open it to cross a fence and not need to worry about two rounds but just one.

I shot a 12 ga Franci a few times years ago and if I remember correctly you couldn't unload the tube magazine by racking the bolt.

I have a 20 gauge Franchi 620, Quail Unlimited edition. I love the gun. Beautiful wood with gold quail in flight on the receiver. Easy to carry all day. Well, not so much since my accident but nonetheless...

The gun does have a quirk or two. Once you get used to them and accept them, its no big deal. You are correct. You cannot empty the tube by racking the bolt. You must depress the button with the shell carrier depressed to empty the tube. My 620 will shoot 3" shells. It can be a little tricky trying to empty the tube of 3" shells.

I think my next Franchi is going to be a 28 gauge Franchi AL.

Enjoy. They are great guns !

Let me say that that manual looks excellent. Franchi's newer manuals--like the one that came with my new Instinct SL--are pretty much useless. Love the gun, but the manual reads like it was drafted in Italian (or maybe Turkish?), then translated into Chinese, to Russian, and finally to English, all by people who know nothing about guns.

I see this is a bit of an older post however, I ,m pretty sure they make them that way so you can eject a shell and exchange it for a different type load without dumping all three shells, such as eject a #4 shot an put in a #2 . maybe because you see big ducks or a goose on the way. Also as has been said, for safety, one shell out to pass the gun to another person or to go around?over an obstical .
