NDR - Inline smoke pole question.....load size

If one lived in PA, to hunt the late muzzleloader season you would have to shoot a Flintlock, or you do not hunt. Don't you dare be caught with a"plastic" lock cover, or a fine you will pay, leather cover your OK. Round balls out of a straight shootin' Flintlock are very deadly, and custom made guns are works of art, balance and reliability. In the right hands, from squirrels to deer they bring home the bacon. Myself I'm not that good, but the guys that are do amazing things with those very primitive guns, and it 'taint' Easy therefore the In Line. They shoot good from tree stands cuz who hunts deer from the ground any more? That's SO primitive...

Vince,
You are right on about the tree stands and don't forget about the folding ground blinds or the bottled scents or ozone generators etc.,etc. I am getting off subject. I very much appreciate a true tradiional M/L as a matter of fact i just finished a hawken style cap lock that was given to my son as a retirement gift.
If i were to build another it would be a Jagger style flint . I love tradition and i don't use no stinking spinning wing either.

It must be that we are to Old School to change, and it's more about the hunt than just the kill, High Fives and Yelling. If my cousin and I would have acted like that my uncle would have knocked us silly.

Congratulations on the hawken cap lock build and gift for your son. A good friend of mine makes Flintlocks for his own use that make me swoon. When he looks at my TC flintlock he shakes his head, and sez "Will you pleeze let me make that gun better?" So far I have declined. I get funny looks from other hunters when I use it in NY, but many are very interested.

Buying the Optima in line was a huge up grade for me, and I do look forward to using it. But like my centerfire rifle it always goes off, plus I can hunt in the rain, with a scope, unreal! So I guess in old age I have changed, but NO spinning wing either.

Pretty much everything has been covered. 100 grains is plenty for deer at that range. I like loose powder, precision seems to be better and performs better with caps.
