Northern Forest Canoe Trail Trip Planner Map

John A friend dropped off a whole bunch of Canoe & Kayak magazines because they had references to sails on canoes which I was interested in. I ended up reading them. It has been a long time since I have taken a canoe trip but they were pleasant memories. The Northern Forest Canoe trail was mentioned and seems what you were looking for. Hey you could do the whole thing it would only take about 55 days or do it in shorter parts.

That sounds like a great trip but I don't know how I could even approach my wife and say I'm taking a 55 day canoe trip....Some of my longer trips up and down the east coast via the ICW were long enough and that was under power.

John,

I did the Oswegatchie canoe trip from Inlet (near Star Lake or Wanakena) up to High Falls twice growing up. Its upriver on the way up and you have to get over a few beaver dams and rapids, but doable even with younger kids. Heck, I wasn't all that old and my sisters were even younger when we made that trip. I also made the trip from Lows Pond, portaged across to the upper Oswegatchie and went downstream from there to Inlet. That's a much longer trip with two decent portages to get through. That trip was when I was 12 with my mom, grampa and grampa's good friend. We made it in 3 days, but that was moving and working hard.
Good luck with your search for a trip. I want to go on another trip someday, just tough to do when living in TX for the next three years... Although since most of my family lives just north of Syracuse, I just might get that chance.
