Following his older brother’s footsteps, Stéfane started to sculpt in 1982 and in 1983 he was initiated to competition in Montreal, Quebec. Through the Prescott gallery, he became acquainted with other artists, mostly painters such as Jean Luc Grondin, Ghislain Caron and Pierre Leduc.
His meeting of Pat Godin in 1986 increased his growing interest for bird sculpture competition. In addition to Godin’s influence, there were also many others such as Paroyan , Lucio, and the Brunet brothers.
In 1987, he started international competitions with a miniature black duck. He won second prize (novice); this was to be the first of many awards in numerous competitions throughout Canada and the USA. He attained the level of Master in 2004.
Whether sculpting the entire work or a simple feather, his objective has always been to create the most life-like bird possible with the incredible attention to detail needed to produce a “one-of-a-kind” work of art.
We can find his masterpieces in nine countries in public and private collections, including the prestigious Leikey Woodson Art Museum, WI. He exposes his art alongside the world’s greatest artists, including Robert Bateman and Carl Brenders.
We also could admire his works in Bennington Center for the Arts, Vermont, during "Birds in Art" exhibit at the Leikey Woodson Art Museum, the Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition as well as in the Calendar Decoy for Ducks Unlimited on several occasions.
Whether you are looking for a duck or a bird of prey, Stéfane’s eye for detail will take your breath away. Also, since 2005, Stéfane has been offering an international series (/8) of bronzes of some of his sculptures.
