NDR... Night table handgun vaults? Anyone have experience with GunVault?

Does anyone have experience with GunVault products? I am looking for a small pistol vault that will fit in my night stand and offers quick access. It must be locked up to be child safe. Unfortunately, my drawer size restricts me to the MicroVault MV 500 key combination entry for $160 or the MV 500B biometric entry for $240.

My first question is how are GunVault products? My second question is what are your thoughts on key combination vs biometric entry? Price is not a factor, I am happy to buy the whichever is best for my use. Obviously there are pros and cons of both systems, I am curious as to others experience. Here is what I am considering, refer to the two models I mentioned:

If anyone recommends any other products in the same size (cannot be larger than 9x12x3, I would also be interested.

This purchase is on my to do list, but I have yet to pull the trigger.

I recommend going through the comments on the Cabela's website for any unit you may be interested in.

The gunvaults are one of the petter products out there. Some others that are less costly and are really easy to open up with any basic hand tool. Some of the biometric units do not function well, but most are the same tech as on some laptops and door security systems. They work really well as long as your finger is clean and the screen is clean. Most allow for more than one user so make sure you get both thumbs in there and another adults thumbs. Redundancy is critical.

Make sure the unit has a manual override key system. There will come a day when the battery dies and you didn't notice the warning light or beep.

Placing a vault in a small piece of furniture like a night stand would only be a child safety measure and not an anti theft measure. You need to make sure you can access the vault from the drawer. There are some sliding vaults made just for desks, but they are really spendy.

I have the keypad version not the biometric version. It is great. I use it daily. Battery life is good.
Make the code comples enough that it can't be guessed simply.
When my oldest was two my first code was 4-1-2-3 and he walked over and pressed that on the first try. Honestly!
I always use a code that has one or more doubles like 3&4-1-2.
I highly reccomend the with kids around.

We have two Speedvault SV500. I really like them. Easy to use. I read the biometrics sometimes take a long time to take your print.
