NDR Pacific NW, Seattle and Victoria Canada area

My wife and I are planning our 25th anniversary trip for this coming summer. I was wondering if anyone is from the area and would be willing to share some things to do in the area. We are planning the last week in July and into the first week of August.

Im not from there but if i went to the pnw during the summer i would definetly go clamming and get some dungeness crabs. I would also do a lot of hiking (an enduro bike trip like what Todd does would be awesome).

Doing a charter trip for salmon/halibut would be awesome. I would also do some spearfishing and get an octopus. If you cant tell i really like food, lol.

Congratulations Phil. A trip to the San Juan islands is beautiful as are the Nat'l Parks (Mt Rainier, Olympic) and a visit to Mt St Helens to witness the power of a volcanic eruption. With so much available to do, I hope you have scheduled a good amount of time for your visit.

Congratulations also Phil, I'm from the area and have traveled into B.C. quite a bit. I'm willing to share what I know. 2 weeks can go by pretty quickly, were you thinking of seeing the more popular and sometimes crowded places or taking the road less traveled?

Thanks Bob. Unfortunately we will only have a week, so we will probably hit the main stuff mostly, but would like some off the beat places too.

I went there for my honeymoon many years ago. The Buschart Gardens are really pretty. But my favorite was the small town of Tofino. Quiet little fishing town on the water. Hire a guide and salmon fish for a day and/or just hike in the beautiful woods

Salmon, halibut and rockfish trips would be on my short list!
As well as eating as much seafood as possible.

Hi Phil. That sounds like its going to be a fun trip. A site I've found very helpful when traveling or planning is http://www.tripadvisor.ca/

I like the way attractions get ranked by users, that's good intel. One small thing many people do when in Victoria is to go to the Empress Hotel for tea. If you are rich maybe you could have a scone too! A walk around the harbor is nice, and its all touristy stuff down there. The restaurant scene is diverse and plentiful.

The museum in Victoria gets some pretty amazing collections, so it might be worth looking up. You know that Rolls Royce the Beatles had painted up like a taxi from Delhi? It was there. If you are down at the harbor, its a short walk between the Empress and the Legislative Buildings, which are also pretty cool to walk around and check out.

Have a good trip!

Mike

Only thing that sticks out in my mind was the Sooke Harbor house, it is an B&B and restaurant. We were there a number of years back and the food was exceptional - if one of you is a foodie and the place is as fgod as it was, it is a must do. Look it up - the setting was amazing and the food better - it is a few miles W of town. We went with a group of old friends, but with just a spouse would be even better.

I'd spend the whole week on the Olympic Peninsula. Hoh rain forest, Neah Bay, Quinault Lodge, Dungeness Spit, Port Townsend. Then head south for Westport, Long Beach Peninsula, and Cape Disapointment. Great area. I was just there!

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We are going to do as much as we can. Sounds like there is no shortage of stuff to do.
