NDR - Power Cats

Guys - I test drove a 23 ft. power catamaran (Carolina Cat) last week running out of the mouth of the Merrimack River into a NE sea with small craft flag flying. I had a speed of about 18 knots right into and over 3-5 FT very snotty and confused seas. Ran it into, abeam and down sea..........no problemo. Then I tried drifting......I could have fished in water that I normally would not go out in less than a 27 ft mono hull. Can't afford new so I am checking Glacier Bay 2260s and World Cat 23 SFs. I understand that the GB is full displacement while the WC is semi displacement and will get up and plane at about 1/3-1/2 throttle. I also understand that the WC 23 hull is very similar to the new Carolina 23 that I drove. If any DBDN members have cat experience or info that will be of help..........please chime in.
thanks -

i have run world cats, twin vees, seacats, and glacier bays. If you were looking for a 26 footer, i'd recommed glacier bay hands down. In the 23 foot range, i'd look for one of the newer 22 seacats, or an older 23 seacat, or the 23 world cat. All are absulutely phenomenal hulls. The 26 ft glacier bays have come down a lot on the used market and are one of the best values in boating.

Hi Kris - Thanks for your info. I have been very impressed with potential values for 26 Glacier Bay boats but also run into many instances of owners having to replace aluminum fuel tanks for a variety of reasons. As far as I am aware, Sea Cat boats are gone from production and I am concerned about parts. Hope to run a 23 World Cat this weekend in a good sea.
thanks again !

yeah no problem. I would lend this, at the relatively low speeds you are talking about (18 knts) the glacier bay hulls will be a lot smoother than the world cats. honestly the glacier bay will be smoother all the way through until it can no longer keep up with the world cat. If you thought that little cat was smooth you likely wouldn't beleive the ride of the 26 glacier bay the first time out. It is something to marvel at. However it can be quite frustrating in flat calm water not to have a high speed option. The world cat will actually ride better the harder you push her. The faster you go the more air is rammed into the tunnel, and acts as a cushion keeping the boat from tunnel slapping.
