ndr riding mower hitch ball

Looking for a 2" hitch ball on a 5/8" shank, so I can use my riding mower to haul a boat trailer and a snowmobile trailer around the yard.

Does anyone know where I could find such a thing?

(I can find a 1 7/8" ball on a 5/8" shank, but all my trailer couplers are 2").

I can't answer your question directly, sorry.
However, it seems that for just moving things around the yard, just use the 1 7/8" ball, I highly doubt the 2" hitch would jump off from the lawn tractor. Or, ream out the hole on that hitch area of the tractor to accomodate the 3/4" post of the 2" ball.... Or, take the 2" ball to a machine shop and have them turn down the post to 5/8" on a lathe....

just thoughts...

I agree, you shoud have no trouble using a 17/8s ball with a 2 inch receiver. I'm not sure I go on a tran-continential trip but aroud the yard should not be a problem.

I'd definitely go with the 7/8" ball. I've had that on my lawn tractor as well as my trailer dolly and it works just fine and allows for either size of hitch.

I use a 17/8" on my bird Buggy to move two boat trailers with a 2" hitch, without ever coming off.

Makes me a little nervous... having seen a 2" coupler come off a 1 7/8" ball and go right thru a pickup tailgate, I can picture that happening again and causing me some problems. But maybe there was something wrong with that coupler *(or maybe it was just put on wrong).

Matt,

I use a 1 7/8" ball on my garden tractor & have never had a problem. Wouldn't try it going down the road at 55 mph though.

If you want a 2" ball though, cut the shank off and drill & tap the ball for a 5/8 bolt. This is what I did for my tractor. I had a 1 7/8 ball laying around with 3/4 shank, too cheap to go out and buy another ball. Cheaper than having a machine shop turn & thread the shank.

Hope this helps,
Jim S
