My son,Cal, will be headed off next fall to attend and play baseball at Indiana University so his future hunting opportunities will be limited, if any, at best for the next several years. He has been putting way more hours than normal on the stand(both bow and gun hunting) looking to harvest at least 10 point buck which was a deer season goal of his knowing his limited opportunities in future years to hunt. Seems like he has been the tough luck hunter as we have always been putting special emphasis to place him in the "hot" stand this year, but the "hot" stand never produces when he hunt it. That hot stand may be one of five stands depending on recent hunt observations. Well it finally came all together for him last night. My daughter and I were hunting together on a buddy stand approx 200 yds from him in the most current "hot" stand. (I hunted the stand the evening before and saw 7 does and one buck from the stand he was hunting) We heard him shoot, then heard the deer crash in the middle of the swamp. Nothing more fun than dragging a deer out of a swamp-lol. Good news is we all had our waders on already so we could get to our stands dry. Fun and memorable times dragging that deer out last night. His big smile and his sisters laughter was all I needed for motivation to help get it out of the swamp. It may not be the biggest racked 10 pt deer in the world, but it will always hold a special place in my heart. Nothing better than hunting with your kids!!
