NDR - Striper Fishing

Hi All,

I'm looking at heading down to Hyannis, MA on July 21-22-23 with my 11 year old to do some Striped Bass fishing. My buddy hooked us up with a boat (Capt Les 508-364-8264) at a cost of $650 for 6hrs. This price seems to be inline with all the other charters. I'm trying to get some feedback on this charter and tried looking for a website and was unable to find one. Just wondering if there is anyone in that area that has used or is aware of this charter and can provide some feedback?

Thanks
Eric

I wish I could help you, I don't know any of the boats out of Hyannis. Montauk or Point Judith I know them all The price is right. That is exactly what I charge for a half day

I live on Cape Cod and do quite a bit of fishing. Primarily offshore fishing (Bluefin Tuna, Marlin, Yellowfin tuna and the rest of the Pelagics..). I know many of the local charter Captains, but I have never heard of the Captain that you mention.

Are you locked into fishing out of Hyannis Harbor? Some of the best striper fishing this time of year is off of Chatham (Monomoy Rips). I would HIGHLY recommend Captain Eddie Correro (last name spelling is not correct) out of Allen Harbor in Harwichport. This is about a 15 to 20 minute car ride from Hyannis. His boat is the Reel Attitude (41 foot Pursuit). He is a super nice man, who is VERY knowledgable about Striper fishing (as well as tuna fishing). He has a website that you can go to.

Please feel free to mention my name. He may be booked during that time frame, but speak with him and he will be able to find you a good charter as well. But try to go with Eddie, you will not be dissappointed.

ps: by the way... Just because I do not know the Captain that you mention.. DOES NOT MEAN that he is not a good Captain and that you should not go with him! Just letting you know of someone that I KNOW for SURE is good.

I was thinking of running to Montauk this Friday night (from Falmouth MA), topping of with fuel... and heading out to fish the Hudson canyon Saturday and Sunday...

Do you know anyone who has fished down there?

Jim O

PS I own a 45 Ocean named "JSeas". I am NOT a Charter Captain, nor am I a commercial fisherman... Just a "Sporty"

I hear nothing about Tuna . A friend of mine from Point Judith, Coke on the Codfarther lives in the canyons this time of year .. His last trip was to east Atlantis, he caught a Mako and that was it.

Jim, enjoy reading your reports from some of the other forums out there on JSeas...

I know a few boats that fished the Hudson recently as there is a pocket of cleaner water on the east side. They had to fish out in the deep east of the 100 square and picked a few yellowfin and longfin, but nothing crazy and that was a few days ago. The water inshore of there has been very green.

Our bluefin season in NJ looked like it was going to start off on the right foot in late June with a few decent fish being taken but now the water has turned very green and lifeless...

The best action lately has been too far south for you or I in the Washington canyon, many bigeyes being taken as well as YFT. I did hear rumors of fish in Atlantis, but nothing confirmed.

Thanks Jim.

I tried getting more info from his cell # on the web, but you have to pay to see who it's tied to. My buddy has been out with this charter 3 or 4 times with no issues. I was more curious about ensuring it met all safety requirements etc. My wife is a little leary letting her son go out on a boat without being able to check up on them.....she does not care about me LOL!

Are there any good websites that I could check the weather a day in advance. I don't want to drive down only to find out that it's too rough for the charter to take place.

Thanks for the info. I have been hearing the same things. I fished the Tunafest out of Hyannis on June 20 - 22 and got SKUNKED. Fishing has been SLOW for the Pelagics, compared to last year.

Hopefully things heat up soon!

Eric

The NOAA link provided is good. I also go to www.fishweather.com and look at the wind forecast page. There are multiple other sites as well.

Regarding safety - if he is a licensed Captain and his boat is registered as a Charter/headboat, he is required by law to have all appropriate safety gear. That being said, I KNOW for SURE that Reel Attitude has all required safety gear PLUS, since he goes offshore (as opposed to just inshore striper fishing) with clients.

Hope you have a great trip.

Jim
