NDR--Wading for deer

Congratulations to both dad and son on a very nice buck.

Sadly, your pics bring back memories long repressed! We built a fire first prior the baptism...Mike shot the buck and made the swim prior gutting the deer when he made the "safe" bank of the Sturgeon, I did the work while he recovered from his immersion. Dumbest thing I ever did was drag on across the Horse Race Rapids at night...full moon and a headlamp, combined with a half-mile plus blood trail for the predators prior immersion were my motivators. Hung him in a spruce tree for the night after we made the crossing.

Congrats and a memory that will last a lifetime. Thanks for sharing.

Many years ago I waded a very deep stream (sans clothes) in Dec., to retrieve a deer a member of our hunting party shot. He was a young lad and his first deer. All I asked of he and my cousin, was to build a large fire for my return, cuz I sure would need it. The lad is now a doctor, and when I see him he still tells the story.

It is these things that the outdoors gave us, that sustain us in our old age. A life well lived.

Nice buck indeed. That's one trip I've not had to make. With our gun deer season beginning Friday I hope if my scouting pays off I continue to place one in a dry spot.
