Need computer guru advice

I webmaster my own website: www.lockstockbarrell.com, using Dreamweaver and transfer info to the server with Core FTP. I was adding some stuff to my site (link on index.htm) (transferred a pdf to the server and then updated with Dreamweaver) and when I was done with the work......the site would not come up. Any thoughts on what might have happened? Any info you might need to figure it out? Is it time for tech-support? This is the first time I've had a problem with the site and I can not bring it up.
Tnx guys,
Lou

Lou, I just tried opening it and got this error message if it helps.

Best of luck!

Redirect Loop

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

* Have you disabled or blocked cookies required by this site?
* NOTE: If accepting the site's cookies does not resolve the problem, it is likely a server configuration issue and not your computer.

wHO IS "GIVEITFORWARDTODAY" ? That is what I get while it is trying to come up.

When I try to go to the site, the browser merely keeps searching & searching & searching and nothing comes up.

Scott,
Thanks, I wasn't even getting that info. Looks like I need to contact the server and see what can be done. Then I'll need to find out if it was due to anything I did so I can NOT do it again. ;)

but when I had an "unexplained" and "unfathomable" owie on my computer not long ago, (contrary to popular belief NOT porn related), I fixed the problem by taking the sites recommendation and "resetting" my computer to a date prior to when the problem started occuring.....once someone told me how to do it my problem was fixed in seconds....

I know that doesn't fix the problem of getting your site updated but it will get you back to the point where you were before it was messed up so that you can try again....

Just a thought...

OR you could always just cover the computer with visqueen and the problem will simply, and completely, DISAPPEAR....Easy Peasy Japanesey.......

All I see is a porn site...I didn't know 4 people could do that

(So can you go back into your index.htm and delete the funky link and/or the PDF file I assume it links to?)

Here are the only two options I know of:

Try the one on the right first. If it doesn't work use the one on the left.

I did go back to a previously saved, good point but still no luck.

Hmmmmmmmmm, hadn't thought of trying the visqueen thingy. It does solve all evils...almost as good as the large impact devices.

Scott,
Thanks Scott, Tried that. I deleted everything I had added and that didn't do it. Also went to the last previously good page and that didn't do it. Went back to the server and did a "re...something" and that didn't do it.
hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm, still searching.

Yup, that was my first thought and is still running through my mind. ;) I had put together a 9 page visqueen tutorial to accent the thread here and was putting it as a pdf on my website and that's when it stopped working.

Lou,

It looks as if someone has changed the DNS record at the web host. That is the reason the browser isn't resolving. Usually this happens if someone at the host updates a record in error.

Send me a PM if this isn't detailed enough and I will help out.

Bill,
Thanks much, that gives me a direction to move. I'll give a shout to my buddy who has the server lease and see if we can't get it resolved.
I'll holler if that doesn't do the job.

Wow, it's back up now. I had done a restore through the server the other day and it created a directory for the backup that was only 2 days old. Found this when I did a history check. Found the directory and checked stuff but didn't know how to move it to "live" but when I checked the site.........I'm back up and working. That might be corrected after I had just sent email to tech support.
Anyhow.......it's back up and running and now we need to see what it takes to prevent whatever problem we had.

Got your site Lou. Those Hammers mush have worked great. Hee hee

Thanks Wispete, those hammers did the trick. I used the smaller one with vengeance and the merely laid the big one in front of the computer. Guess this machine understands I mean business.
Up and running. Thanks partner, and thanks to all who have helped..................MUCH APPRECIATED..
