need help with scull boat- maine?

Hi- i am new- this is my second post- i moved from the mid-west to maine- love it here!! i have been a duck hunter my whole life- but this is a new world to me- i just bought a wooden scull boat- made by a man in falmouth maine in the 1960s- its amazing! rowing oars and a scull oar- gun rest-
i have a boat builder in portand me. looking at it to make it water tight- needs to "swell" he said- so - here i am- with this great boat- but how do i scull it? use it? any help would be great!!

it sounds so bloody easy!!

the oar i have is 5 feet or so- curved down- with a lead weight in handle- and a name branded into it- so- the top of the oar is where? the oat is flat where it curves down and has a ridge on the other side- same side as brand? also there is no motor bracket on this boat- in fact no way to mount a motor at all- the back is well- round? if you will - it is thin and sweeps up??? i need to get a picture but it is not here right now- do you have any idea on motor bracket?

What ever you do don't fiberglass it. I think a carvel planked boat in original condition would be worth more, but I am no expert. Great find.
 
Welcome to the world of scullers!! I'm fairley new to it myself, but I watched my grandfather for years and he made it look so easy. Are you hunting the bay? There are still a few old world scullers still practicing the old way of hunting on the Bay. Check out this site, its dedicated to sculling..... I heard that design often leaks a bit of water right at the keel. Caused by the way the planks are rabbeted into the keel instead of continuous planks with a keel attached to the bottom. If it isn't too bad I would just bring a sponge and put a mat in the bottom.
