I am going to be doing a little re-modeling at home, and need to store 4 deer heads, a duck or two, and an otter that I have had mounted. I don't really have many options, because I don't have a basement, so it is going to have to be in the attic. Anyone have any tips on this? In a plastic bag with mothballs? Leave them out so air can circulate. I wish that I had the wall space, but I don't. The only other place I might have is the garage, but again, I don't really have the wall space there. Any idea's are welcome!

I would avoid this if possible.

Do you have a trusted friend with wall space. How about a secure (from rodents and bugs) storage locker (rental storage). Any business which offer off season storage for fur coats? Maybe they would be able to store your mounts.

Greg- Shoot me a PM. Let me know what your time frame is and when you are planning to get started. I have access to controlled storage space and could hang them on the wall while the work is being done. I am just over in Cherry Hill.

Great offer! I still like the bedroom idea, though.

Just find a spot to hang them (attic is fine) where No mice can get to them and no one will bump them and you will be fine , no bagging and no mothballs.

To Canderson, thank you very much. Unfortuatley, my issue is a little longer term, when the project is finished there still won't be anyplace to put them. I have 1 wife and 1 daughter, neither of whom are interested, and since I have the duck shack to go to, I am OK with that. Doug, the only issue in the attic is it get's hot, probably 120-130 in the summer. You think that would be OK?

No worries. Just wanted to help if I can. I had a friend that had two deer mounts kicked out of the house by the Mrs. I ended up taking them as he couldn't bring himself to throwing them out. When I moved back to NJ, I stored them in my attic for 3-4yrs inside cardboard wardrobe boxes used for moving hanging clothing. They were not prepared or packaged differently other than for transportation from coast to coast.

I pulled them out about two years ago and hung them back on the wall. I haven't noticed anything wrong with them.

While not ideal, it is do-able until you can take over the daughter's room for an office when she goes off to college.

As long as they are dry and away from vermin they should be good.
I had my mounts( 300 plus ) in crates for about 2 years during the move in all kinds of temps and all of them are fine. Some mounts I did over 30 years ago.

Heck my work shop in NJ would get in the hundred degree temps in the summer.
