New Boat Rig

Picking up my new aluminum boat rig tomorrow(9ft long, 42" wide, 13" deep). Really excited to see it firsthand. Next big step will be to figure out how to more effectively camo it as well as to add layout doors to it. Any and all recommendations greatly appreciated.

That is a cool looking rig! I see a lot of potential!

I have a similar, albeit slightly smaller, rig. Mine is slightly over 8' x 42", probably about the same depth. It is a perfect marsh rig. I somehow manage to cram me, my 70# Lab, gun, lunch and gear, a couple small bags of decoys, and more with no problems. I only power mine with a kayak paddle, push poke, or oars, depending on the situation.

And YES, please keep us posted!

Interesting looking rig. Let us know how she performs after you take her for a spin.

I?ve been told it goes 12-15mph with person, blind bag, gun, and dozen or so decoys. Certain once I put on doors and some sort of blind material such as raffia it will slow it down some. However in my case, I don?t travel far via boat in the places I hunt so speed not a big issue to me. Definitely will update everyone once I get it on water.

I would think that getting that bow down would help to lower the profile and help, maybe stow the gas can up there for some weight?
If that weight will inhibit performance while under way, then maybe shift what you can up there once you're settled in.

If you put netting on the front of the boat. You can store your decoys. Giving yourself some weight in the front to help you on the water. Using camo mating like fast grass. Makes it so much easier to grass the boat Anyway you want.

Nice rig...
An idea would be to get some adhesive backed square cable tie mounts and tie wrap a fishing net to the boat. You can buy the cable tie mounts in black. Then take an Authentic used fishing net in black or brown which you can find online if you type "Authentic Used Fishing Net". My hunting partner and I used this technique on a DP MoMarsh boat. We placed 20 or so of those cable tie mounts. You can then use natural vegetation to place into the netting or use raffia. As for the blind doors use the same concept as a High Bee duck boat unless you want a true fold out door like a field layout blind. Interesting rig...Can't wait to see the finishing touches.

Well started on and mostly finished getting the old Holsclaw tilt trailer restored to working condition that I had bought to use on this rig. Put on new coupler, jack, chains, and lights on the trailer. Just need to adjust the winch post to properly size the trailer down to the size of the rig. Couldn't take it any more so I did start the motor yesterday as well--worked flawlessly and started on 1st pull. Too much ice around to try it out in the water, but now at least I can haul it there easily to try it out once the ice leaves in a week or so.

Next will be working on the boat itself--doors, raffia grass, mat for the floor, backrest support beam, seat for when moving?, and a solid cover for storage for the cockpit, etc. Pics to follow as this project progresses. Will be slow going now that tax season officially begins today!!

Thanks for all the input!

Kristan--do you have any pics of this setup??

Blake, took my southbay and put the 6gal tank and the battery in the bow. I'm over 250 and now it runs really well. In heavy seas it seems to take the waves easier, when calm it flat out runs wit a 15hp.
The spray gets me, but I will probably modify it as Steve did.

Put a rubber mat floor in this over the weekend. Like it so much I may do the same thing in my Momarsh Fatboy. Cheap deal($30) to help keep a little warmer and drier. Next step on the new rig is to find a cheap used layout blind to use to put doors plus the layout blind material( with brush straps) on the rig.

The motor isn't set up to use a external tank and 98% of the places I hunt the gas tank on the motor will provide plenty of fuel for the distance I run to hunt. I don't use a battery either. However I definitely agree it definitely appears I need to put some weight to the front.
