Looking at purchasing new boat for duck hunting and some fishing. Looking pretty hard at Xpress x18db and avid 18 commander. Was wondering if anybody had any input on these two boats and which would you choose? Got to look at an avid in person and really liked the layout of it but no Xpress boats close to me
 
What type of hunting are you doing? Salt? 18' is pretty substantial for smaller waters. In my personal experience, boats that are purchased to both duck hunt out of and fish from do both poorly and neither well.
 
With that many people i,d go 20'. For hunting you want an open floor plan and not a huge fore deck for best use. Side console gives more useable space. I had a 17 prior to my present 20 and its surprising how tight that 17 got with 4 people.

Agree with that 100%, except that tiller steer keeps the floor plan even more open.
 
Oh tiller definitely does give more usable floor. But he mentioned running around fishing so I,ll assume he might want a console of some type.
