New duck hunter getting ready

My 10 year old, Sam just passed the test for hunter safety. The field day is next this Friday. Exciting times!

Now time for a youth shotgun and some waders. I decided on a 28 ga pump considering his size and stature. Time for me to sell a bit of my decoy hoard to pay for his equipment.

If anyone knows how to accurately price a old repainted Mason, please get a hold of me. The decoy was from a past fundraier on this site. Nothing really comprable on Ebay.

What waders are guy getting for their kids? We need boot foot neoprene. 2 shoe sizes bigger with extra socks and hope to use them next year too?

First of all congrats on your son's accomplishment. A lot of fun times are ahead. As for waders Thomas always got really good service from Lacrosse youth waders. They were warm, didn't leak, and came in a lot of size options. Give them a look.

Andy the fun is just starting. Glad to hear about your new hunting buddy. Cabela's is making down to size 3 kids in waders in the neoprene. I was lucky when my kids started and got a pair of size 13 Hogman neoprene they stepped from those into a size 3 cableas then into a size 6 cabelas. Hard to believe it but my Daughter is stepping into my sons 6's from last year and he is stepping into a pair of mens size 9. Its true they grow fast he shot just under 50% on sporting clays last weekend and I dare say the ducks are in trouble this year! Your only two years away from that he is 12!!!

Here is a link to the Cabelas they served us well through two kids and were warm enough with 600 grams in the boots. I did not take the kids on many below freezing hunts with them though and when we did we kept them short around a hour.

Just think of how much fun the two of you will have! Best of luck to you and your son when the season opens.

Sam passed the field day exam and tests! We were a little worried ass it started 5:30 PM and was scheduled to run until 9:30, past his bed time. The final exam was at 9:30 Pm as the class ran a little late. He only missed one question out of 50! I am very proud of him.

The range test was after the exam and he was even able to hit the target with an extremely heavy adult sized pellet gun. We left at about 10 PM, tired but happy.

Driving to the field day he was bit reluctant with it being so late and not know what to expect. But at the end he said he had a great time.

dont sell the mason hand it down to him. As far as a gun buy him a mossburg sa-20 they will grow with him . my son has shot alot of ducks and geese with this gun.
