Hello everyone, new member here from Michigan. Getting back into duck hunting and decided that my 1754 with giant mudmotor was just too much, sold it and just this week picked up an Arthur Armstrong Blackjack and trailer for $300. Super excited to try this new “little” boat with my son on the Muskegon river and backwaters.

I drove 600 miles roundtrip on Tuesday and didn’t even know what I had until I found the previous owners registration and searched up Blackjack duck boat. Reg says 1985…..anyways, glad to be here to learn as much as I can about customizing this little rig.

Looks like a great deal, here's some neat media archives for that boat built by Arthur Armstrong. (TDB) The Duck Boat Co builds these today taking ownership in 2017 in East Dennis, MA if you should need any accessories or have any questions about performance etc.. we're here! Best of luck

Were you west bound on I96 heading into Muskegon about 4-4:30pm Tuesday?
 
You might want to weigh that boat and get an idea if foam under floor has become water logged comparing present weight to weight from manufacturer brochure. I Bought one new back in early 90,s ,sold it and bought a jon as kids matured. for added room. Bought it back about 10 yrs. ago and previous owner had evidently let it get water inside hull repeatedly or the seal between top shell and hull leaked. He had punched a small hole in floor from carrying a longtail mud motor inside. Anyway boat had gotten heavier due to waterlogged foam under floor. Older models can get water into rear corner flotation bxs thru seal leaking and around rear lift handles as it shoots up there on plane. Hopefully yours doesn,t have these issues but just something to be aware of. They are a great hull and actually can handle some rough water. Ran a 2 stroke 25 merc on mine first time owning. It would fly. 2nd time around I ran a 2 stroke 15 merc. Ran alright with myself and dog/decoys but needed more. Of course hull was water logged by that time unbeknownst to me till later. They only draw about 4" water and super stable. Good luck with your new boat.
 
Wow, congrats! You got a killler deal on that boat. I've wanted a blackjack for sometime and will eventually get one someday. (At least that's what I tell myself)

I've never owned a blackjack, but I'd be concerned that your motor choice will be grossly underpowered.. especially with your son and a full hunt load aboard.
