Had to take the dremel to it right off! The carry handle had a raised boss, that limited my the ability to place the motor in the fully up position. Not an issue with a regular transom, but an issue on my sneakbox as the rear deck is in the way,

Now in the fully up position, the handle does not interfer. The other option was to take it apart an remove the handle.
More work, and I would loose the use of the handle if I ever needed it.

Fits pretty similar if not exactly like the OMC did.

Had to remove the aluminum clamp plate I had gotten from Dave Clark, the Yamaha clamp is just a little narrower.
Happy I wrapped the Mahogany in stainless steel when I built the motor mount, though it is currently just glued
as the screws I used to fix the aluminum clamp plate had screws hidden under the OB clamps.

Where do I find a cable to lock the OB to the boat?

Sweet!!!!

Had the same problem with my carry handle on the DuckWater. Had to take mine off because I could not raise the motor all the way up.

Nice! I had the same damn problem with that handle hitting my deck in the full upright position. I took option 2 and pulled the pin and removed the handle.

Thanks Bill, I had seen that, but on my boat, I would have to mount the lock up, and fill it with water and mud all the time. I suppose I could make some kind of a cover for it. I was thinking more of a cable from the motor to the OB so it can't fall off in the water and be lost! The aluminum clamp I had on there before had the clamp into a recess, so it would have to be real loose before I could fall off. Now I cam clamping wiht friction only unless I want to make some modifications. Afraid I would be a bigger mess trying to remove the SS and cut down the Mahogany motor board. Maybe I can attach a strip of SS above the clamp, then slide the motor on from the side that way, it can only fall off to the side and not up? Humm.... have to hit the scrap bin in the model shop this week!

Dave,

Be very wary of trusting a cable lock. A good pair of bolt cutters can make short work of them. That engine is too purty to go on walkabout.

Maybe a rubber flap glued over the key hole, probably not taking the motor off that often.

Dave,

I've used the same lock that Bill suggested many years ago. I think I still have it around someplace but haven't used it in a long time. One thing I would definately do if you don't get that lock is zip tie the ends of the motor clamp handles together. I've a couple motors that would loosen while driving down the road. One time they became so loose that I (or anyone) could have lifted the motor right off the transom.

Chris, I hear you, but don't see how I can do that on my sneakbox. The holes in the mounting bracket do not line up where I can drill a through hole and reach it on the inside. I would have to use a lag or a screw and not sure I want that kind of perforation in the mahogany. I'll double check on the Yamaha, but that was the case on the OMC at least.
